Alan A. Perlberg MILWAUKEE - formerly of Racine-Alan A. Perlberg, 66, passed away on Saturday August 29, 2009 at Mt. Carmel Rehabilitation Center, Milwaukee.

Alan was born in Racine on January 7, 1943 the son of Arthur and Muriel (Helling) Perlberg. He graduated from Wm. Horlick High School “Class of 1961”, and went on to further his education, graduating from U.W. Oshkosh, with a degree in journalism.

Alan was employed at the Milwaukee Library and Milwaukee County Stadium. He found great enjoyment in attending many festivals in Milwaukee and Racine; he enjoyed the outdoors and camping as a young boy with his family. Alan found solitude in his many long walks, along with being very well read and enjoyed listening to the radio.

Alan is survived by his cousin and caregiver, Charles “Chuck” Valukas, of Racine, along with other cousins, Gloria Valukas of Grafton, Lorraine (Cal) Peterson of Green Bay, Janet (Charles) Iggulden of Racine, and Wayne (Cindy) Valukas of Tennessee, Doris Brown and David, Don and Dean Miller all of Racine. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, many other relatives, and dear friends in Racine and Milwaukee.

Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday September 4, 2009 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers memorials to American Lung Association, 13100 W. Lisbon Rd. Suite 700, Brookfield, WI, 53005, have suggested by the family.

Dolores O. Cordier*Click on picture for tribute Dolores O. (nee: Drews) Cordier, 77, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at her residence. She was born in Racine on April 30, 1932, the daughter of Oscar and Olivia (nee: Luebke) Drews. Dolores was united in marriage to James R. Cordier on May 16, 1953, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, and found great enjoyment in playing Schaskopf, traveling with her husband throughout the United States, golf, bowling and crocheting.

Dolores is survived by her daughter, Suzanne O. Cordier of Racine; sons, Daniel J. (Felicia) Cordier of Florida and Steven O. (Laura) Cordier of Colorado; three grandchildren, Maxwell, Madeline and Grace Cordier; brothers, Duane (Shirley) Drews and Lloyd Drews all of Racine; Godson, Steven (Tracy) Drews of Antigo; sister-in-law, Sylvia Cordier, of New York; and special niece, Olivia Thompson of Iowa.

She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Dolores was preceded in death by her, parents; husband, James on December 14, 2006; stepmother, Lillian; daughter-in-law, Marrian (nee: Bergan) Cordier; brothers-in-law, Russell (Betty) Cordier and Clarence Cordier.

Funeral services will be held at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 728 Villa St., on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Roekle officiating.

Burial will be at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove, on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at 11 a.m.; those wishing to attend please meet at the cemetery chapel.

There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday, August 28, 2009, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Saturday at church from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, have been suggested by the family.

A very special thank you to Wheaton Franciscan Home Health Hospice staff, especially Lori and Terri, Shirley Drews and Ruth Kern for their special attention time and care given to Dolores.

 
Robert James Lund FRANKSVILLE – Robert ‘Bob’ James Lund, 90, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2009 at his residence. He was born in Racine on July 10, 1919, the son of Fredrick and Edna (nee: Peterson) Lund. He grew up on a farm in Raymond. On August 11, 1944 Robert was united in marriage to Leila France.

Bob was a heavy equipment operator for 34 years with James Cape & Sons, retiring in 1983. After retirement he continued to work including Oakes and Blakies Construction. Until his recent illness, he was still able to operate heavy equipment. He was a member of Operators Engineer Local 139 for 56 years. Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed gardening and cutting grass.

Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Leila; 4 daughters, Patricia Lund of Dublin, CA, Joyce (Darry) Dahl, Jeanne (Rob) Wilks and Connie (Tom) Dremel all of Franksville; son, Bob (Lori) Lund of Burlington; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; sister, Edith Vogel of Caledonia. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and his beloved dog, Buffy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister and sisters, Vera and Doris.

Please join us in celebrating Bob’s life at Tom and Connie’s home, 2512 65th Dr., Franksville, WI 53126. There will be a time for family and friends to meet on Sunday, August 30, 2009 from 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. with a remembrance service at 4 p.m.

 
Gilbert Miller*Click on picture for tribute RACINE – Gilbert Roland “Gil” Miller, 78, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care- All Saints on Friday, August 21, 2009, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Racine on October 13, 1930, the son of Arnold E. and Alice K. (nee: Hush) Miller, Sr. Gil graduated from St. Catherines High School and attended Dominican College and Marquette University. On June 2, 1951 Gilbert was united in marriage to Patricia Grace Krahn at St. John Nepomuk Church.

Gilbert was an Assistant Supervisor with Wisconsin Natural Gas, retiring after 39 years. He was an Officer with EMBA, active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was a collection teller. He enjoyed bowling and softball in his younger years. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Surviving is his wife Pat; daughters, Nancy (John) McGrath, Jill (Mark) Felch-Garvin, Alison (Steve) Mrkvicka; grandsons, Jonathan (Kate) McGrath, Jeramy Felch, Aaron Felch, Steven Mrkvicka; granddaughters, Teresa McGrath, Jennifer (John) Lubatti, Rebecca Felch, Kristen Mrkvicka; great granddaughters, Alexia Mrkvicka, Myah Caron, Mary Grace McGrath, soon to be born, great grandson, Vincent Lubatti,; and brother and sister-in-law, Arnold E. (Barb) Miller Jr. Gil is further survived by much-loved nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. John Aiello officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. for relatives and friends to meet with the family before 11:00 a.m. mass.

Memorials to The American Lung Association or The Tobacco Free Coalition have been suggested.

 
Opal M. Benedict*Click on picture for tribute Opal M. (nee: Hannon) “ Auntie Midge or Mrs. B.” Benedict, 86, was born into eternal life on Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie. She was born in Green Bay, on November 29, 1922, the daughter of David and Alvina (Wheelock) Hannon.

Opal was united in marriage to George Benedict on March 20, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a graduate of Wm. Horlick High School “Class of 1940” and attended Gateway College, earning a degree in Accounting. Opal was employed at Racine County Human Services for over seven years until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Northside Calvary Church since 1982, was church treasurer for over 17 years, along with being Sunday School treasurer.

Opal had a gift for teaching, she found great enjoyment in playing cards, especially Schafskopf, was known for her famous Kolaches, just to list of few of her many talents. She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. Opal was known as “The sweet lady with the pleasant smile.” She had an unwavering faith, which was an inspiration to her family and friends.

Opal is survived by her loving children, Linda (Guy) Rannow, George and Sue (nee: Wilkinson) Benedict, Robert and Kristen (nee: Lindholm) Benedict, and Rod Benedict; five grandchildren, Kim (nee: Rannow) Coan, Heidi (Steve) Stublaski, Elton (Lisa) Benedict, Kelsey and Kaitlyn Uncles. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Trent Rannow, Kelsie and Tommy Stublaski, Casey Coan, Cohen and Morgan Benedict and Matthew Uncles; one brother, David (Bev) Hannon; one brother-in-law, Dan Clemmerson; and one sister-in-law, June Benedict. Opal is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, on January 22, 1976; three sisters, Hazel Nitz, Sylvia Lauterbach and LaVerne Clemmerson; one brother, Melvin Hannon.

Funeral services honoring and remembering Opal’s life will be held at Northside Calvary Church, 5734 Douglas Ave., on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jason Holm officiating. Private burial will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Northside Calvary Church or Hospice Alliance have been suggested.

Joseph C. Cuccio Sr. *Click on picture for tribute Joseph C. Cuccio Sr., 76 passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints.

Joe was born in Racine, September 20, 1932 son of Anthony and Agnes (nee: Johnson) Cuccio. On June 27, 1952 he was united in marriage to Kathleen B. Sweetman at Holy Communion Lutheran Church.

Joe was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1951” and went on to further his education graduating from Lawrence College in 1955. Joe taught one year of High School while coaching football and hockey, before embarking on a sales/sales administration career in the leather manufacturing business, retiring in 1995 from Pfister & Vogel Tanning Co., Milwaukee, WI.

Joe was past President of The Kiwanas Club of Greater Racine, member of the Sales, Marketing and Executive Club, past board member of the Racine Kilties Drum & Bugle Corps of Racine and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Joe loved the outdoors, including hunting, fishing and camping with his family, and he especially enjoyed his numerous Canadian fishing trips with his sons and close friends. Joe, Kathy and family spent many happy days at their cabin north of Eagle River, WI.

This love of the outdoors was passed down to his children and grandchildren. He was an Eagle Scout and swimming instructor at the Racine Boy Scout Camp.

Traveling was also an important part of Joe and Kathy’s life, with trips to Europe, Alaska and Caribbean cruises with his family.

He was a lifelong member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church and an active member on the church council. Joe was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathleen; sons, Joseph Jr. (MaryAnn), and Jon (Susan); daughters, Joleen (James) Carlson, and Joan (Kevin) Watson, all of Racine; grandchildren, Nicole (Brett) Hauch, Lauren Cuccio, Courtney (Jason Burge) Carlson, Jessica Watson, Gina Cuccio, Jacob DeGroot and Andrew DeGroot; brother Richard (LoEtta) Cuccio of Wind Lake, WI., sister Margret Cuccio of Milwaukee; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and dear friends,

Joe was preceded in death his parents, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Arthur Balian, Jack Sweetman, Jim and Arlene Sweetman, and other relatives and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 2000 West 6th St., (Mark Hurn Room) on Tuesday August 18, 2009 at 11 a.m.

with Rev. Jeff Barrow officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Monday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday at church from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.

Sam "Socko" Kachichian*Click on picture for tribute RACINE – Sam ‘Socko” Kachichian, 83, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Ridgewood Care Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on October 12, 1926, the son of Mihran and Marie (nee: Dadian) Kachichian. Sam was a “1945” graduate of Wm. Horlick High School. On September 11, 1954 Sam was united in marriage to Helen Christensen at St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church. He was employed as a steel salesman for Metron Steel Company, retiring in 1995 after many years of service. Sam was a member of St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, the Rotary Club and Milwaukee Athletic Club. He found great enjoyment in golf, squash, racquetball and swimming.

Sam is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen; son, Michael (Faryn) Kachichian of DePere and their children, Drew and Paige; daughters, Mary (Bob) Stoewe, and their children, Cameron and Samantha, Jenny (Rich) Miller, and their children, Allison, Anna and Christian; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Koleske and Donald Sack all of Racine. He is further survived by nieces nephews other relatives and many dear friends.

Sam was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Koleske and Margaret Sack; three nephews, Donald (Michelle) Sack, Richard Misch and Tommy Christensen .

Funeral services will be held St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 4605 Erie St. on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Yeprem Kelegian officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with Wake Service at 5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sam’s memory to St. Mesrob’s Church have been suggested.
