RACINE- Mae Elizabeth Meldgaard, 93, passed away at Lakeshore Manor and went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ, on December 30, 2009. Mae was born in Antigo, Wisconsin on March 6, 1916, the daughter of The Rev. Walter and Hattie (nee: Sorenson) Lembke. She was united in marriage to Jerome A. Meldgaard on August 15, 1936 at the family cottage on the beautiful Lake Noquebay near Crivitz, WI.
Mae was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1933”. She later attended nursing training at Milwaukee Hospital for two years and Milwaukee State Teacher’s College from 1933-1934.
Mae loved her family and Racine. Her favorite verse was: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. She spent her years as a homemaker and community volunteer. In 1959 she was awarded Racine’s first “Woman of the Year”. Mae served Girl Scout Troop 1934, MADD, P.E.O. Chapter CF, Racine County Republican Party, Racine Theatre Guild, Sustainable Racine, Women’s Civic Council and Wustum Museum.
She also served as president of Big Sisters, Racine County Girl Scouts, Racine County Republican Women, St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, the Visiting Nurses Association, the Women’s Club of Racine, the Y.W.C.A., and the 21 Now Coalition.
Mae was legislative chairman of Wisconsin Federation of Women’s Club, served as board member of the American Red Cross (Southeastern Wisconsin), Community Chest (United Way), Family Service of Racine, League of Women’s Voters, Mental Health Organization and Clinic, Racine Council on Drug and Alcohol Abuse, Racine Symphony Guild, Racine Zoological Society, the Wisconsin Association of Woman Highway Safety Leaders and served as chairwoman of the Southeastern Council of the Wisconsin Hospital Association.
Mae was also a member of the Physician Recruitment Committee of the Racine Medical Society.
Mae is survived by her daughter, Gail (Lee) Pullen, son, John A. (Shirley) Meldgaard, all of Racine, grandchildren, John (Megumi) Pullen of Okinawa, Japan, Karen (Robert) Wagner of Glendale, Michael (Laura) Fahrenkrog-Pullen of Iowa, Anne (Lori) Hein-Pullen, Cathryn (Steven) Stetka, Sara (Scott) McDonald, Mark (Rebecca) Meldgaard and Eric Meldgaard all of Racine. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, other relatives and many dear friends. Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome on June 28, 1995, one brother, Willard Lembke and sister Ruth Doenier and her parents.
Funeral services for Mae will be held at Faith United Methodist Church, 1013 Harmony Drive, on Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Listowel Mensah officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Monday, January 4, 2010, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. and at church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Riverbend Nature Center, (3600 N. Green Bay Road, Racine, WI 53404), P.E.O. Chapter CF (5324 Cynthia Lane, Racine, WI 53406), or Lakeshore Manor, (1320 Wisconsin Ave. Racine, WI 53403) in Mae’s memory have been suggested.

RACINE- Audrey Jane (nee: Mischke) Patrick, 88, passed away on Tuesday December 29, 2009 at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints. Audrey was born in Racine on August 9, 1921 the daughter of George and Pearl (nee: Boeshaan ) Mischke. She was united in marriage to Raymond J. Patrick and was a graduate of Washington Park High School.
Audrey was a former member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church and retired from Jacobson Manufacturing after 20 years of service. Audrey found great enjoyment in bowling and crocheting and was an avid lover of books and reading.
Audrey is survived by two daughters, Eileen LaDuke of Racine, Sue (Michael) La Paglia of Denver, Colorado, four grandchildren, Nicole LaDuke, Scott La Paglia, Matthew (Jessika) La Paglia and Kelly La Paglia.
She is further survived by one brother-in-law, Arthur Uhlir, along with other relatives and dear friends.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raymond in 1971, and one sister, Carol Uhlir.
In keeping with Audrey’s wishes, private funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home with burial at West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Meals on Wheels, 5820 Lincoln Village Dr, would be appreciated.

RACINE – Nancy (nee: Dunleavy) Petrick, 79, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2009 at Ridgewood Care Center. She was born in Racine, on March 16, 1930, the daughter of Arthur and Bernice (nee: Schorn) Dunleavy. Nancy was a William Horlick High School graduate “Class of 1948”.
On January 15, 1949 Nancy was united in marriage to Edward T. Petrick in Dubuque, Iowa, he preceded her in death on August 22, 2009.
Nancy was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church and her working career began at Oster Manufacturing as a bookkeeper, she was later employed at Sentry Foods for 16 years, East Park Towers and Holy Communion Lutheran Church as an administrative assistant, retiring in 1992.
Nancy is survived by her sons, Michael Petrick and Larry (Novelette) Petrick all of Racine; step-son, Richard (Nori) Petrick of Stillwater, MN; grandchildren, Andy (Jenny) Petrick, Brian Petrick, Aaron Petrick and Nick Petrick; great grandsons, Cody, Kyle and Jordan Petrick.
She is also survived by her brother, Paul Dunleavy of Racine and sister-in-law, Frances Petrick, daughter-in-law, Fran Petrick also dear friends Joan Smaglich and LaVern Kreuser. Nancy is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 1015 4 Mile Road, on Saturday January 2, 2009 at 11a.m. with Rev. Carol Baumgartner officiating. There will be a visitation at church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Private burial will be held at Mound Cemetery. |

RACINE – Russell E. Pottinger, 71, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2009. He was a lifelong resident of Racine born on February 19, 1938, the son of Russell E. and Alice A. (nee: Adams) Pottinger.
Russell served 4 years in the United States Navy. He had been employed at Western Publishing, retiring after 30 years of service. Russell enjoyed bowling and coin collecting. He will always have a special place in many hearts, and will never be forgotten.
Russell will be sadly missed by his children, grandchildren, brother and sister, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Stella and brother, Bobby.
Private services will be held at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
Memorials to American Legion Post 546 or to one’s favorite charity have been suggested. |

RACINE-Helen Janet Clickner, 83, entered in eternal life at Aurora St. Luke’s South Shore in Cudahy on Saturday December 19, 2009 with her loving daughters at her side, she is now reunited with her husband Jim in heaven-where life has no end.
Helen was born in Plymouth Township on November 15, 1926 the daughter of C.W. Charles “Carl” and Ethel (nee: Arnold) Burrow. She was a graduate of Beloit High School “Class of 1944”. Helen was united in marriage to James Clickner on June 30, 1945, in Hanover, Wisconsin. She was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in South Beloit, Illinois.
Helen was last employed as a secretary retiring from Jensen Metal Products. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a former member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
Helen is survived by her two daughters, Lori (James) Henkes, Stacy Clickner and Bill Freberg, two granddaughters, Cara and Erica Henkes, all of Racine. She is further survived by one brother, Ronald (Ethel) Burrow, one sister, Irene Burrow, both of Beloit, WI., one sister-in-law, Florence Burrow of Darien, WI. Helen is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. .
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, on December 13, 1990, brothers, Everett and Lorien Burrow.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church 2065 Geneva Street on Wednesday December 23, 2009 at 6 p.m. with Rev. Stephen Jennings officiating. Private interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park, next to her husband.
There will be a visitation at church on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until service time at 6 p.m. |

FRIENDSHIP – Marie (nee: Burdick) Booth, 77, formerly of Racine passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Moundview Memorial Hospital in Friendship. She was born on July 26, 1932 in Lindsey, Wisconsin the daughter of George and Gladys (nee: Griffin) Burdick and lived most of her life in Racine. On February 17, 1951 Marie was united in marriage to William Hugh Booth in Racine.
Marie enjoyed making bisque dolls, listening to classical music and fishing with her sister-in-law, Edith Burdick and was an avid NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt Jr. fan.
Marie is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law, William (Carol) Booth of Franksville and Albert Booth of Friendship; daughter, Debra (David Cosier) Booth of Providence, Rhode Island; grandchildren, Tanya (Bryon) Kirchenberg, Loretta and Bill Booth all of Racine; two great granddaughters, Brianna and Allison Kirchenberg; brother and sister-in-law, Donald (Mary) Burdick of Racine.
She is further survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives in Racine and various communities throughout Wisconsin.
Marie was preceded her in death be her parents; husband, William on December 14, 1996; seven brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time. |

RACINE- Albert Edward Jensen, 95, second-eldest son, cherished brother and beloved uncle, passed away peacefully- finding his own way into a new life with grace and dignity- on Friday morning December 11, 2009, after battling courageously to overcome complications incurred from falling at his assisted living facility in Oak Creek.
Albert was born into this life on October 13, 1914 to Oscar and Amanda (nee: Noe) Jensen, the 5th of 11 siblings.
After contributing years of service to the Civilian Conservation Corps, Albert entered the U.S. Army at Fort Sheridan on July 13, 1942, trained in Delaware with Co. C, First Battalion at Aberdeen Proving Grounds.
Albert achieved the status of Tech Sergeant, and earned many meritorious citations including two bronze battle stars, three overseas service bars, one service stripe and the good conduct medal while deployed to the European Theater operations in Central Europe from March of 1944 until December of 1945.
Albert retired from Young Radiator after more than 30 years of service.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, nine other siblings, (Lilian, Evelyn, Viola, George, Leo, Peter, Rosalind, Richard and Theodore). A close friend Emma VanSwol, various in-laws and numerous friends.
Albert is survived by only one sister, Margaret Erven, sister-in-law, Joyce Jensen and countless nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. with Fr. Allen Bratkowski officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, with full Military Honors. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 12:30 until time of service at 1:30 p.m.

RACINE –Arthur ‘Art’ Ray Wilks, 50, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2009. He was born in Milwaukee on April 5, 1959, the son of John and Agnes (nee: Traweek) Wilks. Art was educated in Kenosha Schools and a graduate of Bradford High School. He served in the United States Marine Corp. Art was a supporter/contributor of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Racine; also Women and Children Horizons of Kenosha.
Art was a hair stylist for 20 years at Hair Crafters of Kenosha. He enjoyed gardening and always looked forward to his never-ending remodeling projects and was a motorcycle enthusiast. Most of all he enjoyed entertaining and having parties with his friends.
Art is survived by his life partner, Bob Marques of Racine; children, Beth (Danny) Erickson of Tomah and Aimen Garro of IL; two granddaughters, Ariel, Katie, three grandsons, Damion, Dannie and Sebastian, brothers and sisters, Jane (Daryl) LaPlant of northern, WI, John Wilks, Judy (Ed) Lang all of Altoona, George Wilks of CA and Mike Wilks of Racine. Art is also survived by special nieces and nephews, Shelly Raeburn, Jennifer (Jimmy) Thompson, Cody, Katie and Rhiannon, John W. III, Steven, David and Nicklaus, Bob’s mother, Mary Marques of Racine; Bob’s brother, Brian Marques of Sturtevant and his daughter Sarah Marques; special cousin, Carol Sherwood of Fenton, MI; dear friends, Loretta (Mike) Maze of Kenosha.
He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many dear friends in Racine and Kenosha. In addition, Art will be dearly missed by his furry friends, Casper and Dustin.
Services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday before services from 10 a.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Bob would be greatly appreciated.

Ruby Irene Mathison, 93, passed away on Saturday December 5, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints.
She was born in Eau Claire County, the daughter of Fred and Agnes (nee: Wallmark) Smith at home on the family farm.
Ruby was united in marriage to William Mathison in Eau Claire at Grace Lutheran Church on January 25, 1941. She was a member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. Ruby was employed at Western Publishing, retiring after over 25 years of service. She found great enjoyment in crocheting, embroidering and loved to bake for family and friends.
Ruby is survived by two daughters, Susann (Dean) Bertelsen of Franksville and Jane Bauer of Racine; four grandchildren, Wendy, Kathleen, Shelli and Cynthia. She is further survived by nine great-grandchildren, Jordan, Andrew, William, Tessa, Tamara, Colton, Grace, Jaden and Kalynn; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends, in Racine and Eau Claire.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, William, on July 4, 1985; and four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 322 Ohio St., on Thursday December 10, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Barsch officiating. Burial will be held in Eau Claire.
Visitation will be held at church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lutheran Church of the Resurrection have been suggested by the family.

Margaret M. (nee: Zacharias) Ulrich-Wiley, 90, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at her residence. She was born on January 28, 1919, in Leavenworth, Kansas, the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Jane (nee: Scholar) Zacharias of Oak Mills, KS. Margaret grew up on her family’s farm until her marriage to Bernard E. Ulrich, Jr. on March 26, 1938, at the First Christian Church.
While residing in Atchison, KS, she was employed by the Atchison Public Schools as a cook at the high school and later manager at Franklin Grade School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard, on November 13, 1977. On February 1, 1984, at the First Christian Church in Atchison, KS, Margaret was united in marriage to Shannon E. Wiley.
In 1984 they moved to Leavenworth, KS. Together they did extensive traveling throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Leavenworth. After Shannon’s death on March 25, 2001, Margaret moved to Racine to be with her daughter, Carolyn, and her family. She attended First Baptist Church of Racine.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Ronald) Guthery of Franksville; son, Daniel (Nancy) Ulrich of Salina, KS; step-sons, Bruce (Becki) Wiley and Willard (Angie) Wiley all of Leavenworth, KS; step-daughter, Karen (Dick) Works of Humboldt, KS; niece, Vera (Joe) Utara of Topeka, KS; five grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. She further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends in Kansas and Racine.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers, Herbert and Lawrence Zacharias; nephew, Larry Zacharias; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Sunday, December 20, 2009, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Holly Anderle officiating. There will be a time to meet with family and friends from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. In keeping with Margaret’s wishes her ashes will be placed in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS.
Memorial donations to Hospice Alliance, Inc., 10220 Prairie Ridge Blvd. Pleasant Prairie, WI. 53158, or to one’s favorite charity have been suggested by the family.

RACINE – Elsie Kirstine (nee: Ericksen) Thompson, 85, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Lakeshore Manor. She was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on January 15, 1924 the daughter of Jens Anker and Emmy (nee: Jorgensen) Ericksen.
On March 3, 1945 Elsie was united in marriage to Robert A. Thompson at Bethania Lutheran Church. She was a lifetime member of Bethania Lutheran Church and had been the church secretary for many years. Elsie found great enjoyment in knitting, counted cross-stitch and reading.
Elsie is survived by her son, Laurence “Larry’ (Kelli) Thompson of Racine; daughter, Lynn Caron of Mobile, AL; two grandsons, Jeremy and Patrick Thompson; one sister and two brothers-in-law, Helene ‘Fayna’ (Bernard) Wasik and Arthur Petzke; one brother and a sister-in-law, Jens (Kay) Ericksen all of Racine. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert on August 7, 2004; sister, Doris Petzke; brother and sister-in-law, Elmer (Audrey) Ericksen.
Memorial services will be held at Bethania Lutheran Church, 4120 Wright Ave. on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Steve Wohlfeil officiating. There will be visitation at church on Wednesday morning before services from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Private interment will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Bethania Lutheran Church have been suggested by the family.

Gordon A. Anton, 94, passed away at Burlington Memorial Hospital on Sunday, November 22, 2009. Gordon was born in Racine on October 25, 1915, the son of Alfred and Elsie (nee: Kriz) Anton.
Gordon was a “1933” graduate of Wm. Horlick High School. He was united in marriage to Susan Kimmer in Racine on October 22, 1938.
Gordon was employed as a dispatcher for Commercial Truckers for 42 years, retiring in 1975. He was a proud member of the Racine Yacht Club, Shriners, Masons, Danish Brotherhood, Civil Air Patrol and the Coast Guard Reserve. Gordon was very involved in the Racine Raider’s Chain Gang, semi-pro baseball, 50 years Big Liefs Bowling and the Horlick High School Class of “1933” K.I.T. Club.
Gordon is survived by one son, Ronald (Sue) Anton of Rochester; two daughters, Linda (Terry) Hort of Union Grove and Janet (Bill) Simon of Fort Atkinson; grandchildren, Chris (Amy Barthel) Anton of Colorado, Corey (Val) Anton of Grandview, Michigan, Sam Simon and James Simon, both of Fort Atkinson, Kari (John Willard) Berens and Beth (Eric) Tepley all of Racine. He is further survived by two great grandsons, Jackson of Racine and Caiden of Colorado; one great-granddaughter, Kayla of Racine and one sister, Delores Scheller. Gordon is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan on February 27, 2000; one brother and two sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Nepomuk, 700 English St., on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at 11 a.m. Private entombment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until mass time.
