RACINE – Bergith (nee: Sorensen) DeRose, 82, passed away on, Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints. She was born in Denmark on June 26, 1927, the daughter of Otto and Agnes (nee: Astrup) Sorensen. Bergith was united in marriage to Alfred C. DeRose on June 26, 1948. She formerly was a member of First Church of God and later attended Grace Church. Bergith enjoyed crocheting, doing word search games, watching her birds and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters; Karen (Steve) Hall of Franksville and Lisa (Mark) Hyde of Waterford; 5 grandchildren, Sara (Christopher Witek) Hall, Rebecca Hall, Nathaniel Hyde, Katelyn Hyde and Grace Hyde; 2 sisters-in-law, Sarah DeRose and Phyllis DeRose. She held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews and is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Bergith was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred on July 31, 1994; sisters and brother-in-law, Verda (Benjamin) Weber and Norma Bruno; brothers and sisters-in-law, James (Ruth) DeRose, Ann (Charles) Domanico, Michael (Jennie) DeRose, Rocco DeRose and Joseph DeRose.
Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Monday, February 1, 2010 at twelve noon with Rev. Sam Jackson officiating, entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Monday before services from 10 a.m. until service time.

MADISON - Dorothy Jean (nee: Hartig) Skovsted, 84, passed away at St. Mary’s Care Center in Madison on Friday, January, 22, 2010. She was surrounded and comforted by her loving family.
Dorothy was born in Racine, WI on March 26, 1925, to Louis and Annetta (nee: Jensen) Hartig. Dorothy was united in marriage to Cliff Skovsted on June 19, 1948 in Racine, WI.
Dorothy graduated from Washington Park High School and worked in the offices at the Massey-Harris Company prior to starting her family with Cliff.
She was a faithful member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Fitchburg, WI and years earlier she was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in West Allis and Bethania Lutheran Church in Racine, WI. Dorothy highly valued her friends in life enjoying holiday picnics, card club and women’s groups that met for many years. She and Cliff shared a love for dancing – their polka could not be beat. Dorothy enjoyed painting, quilting, and sewing all types of clothing and costumes for her children and grandchildren. Dorothy was a phenomenal cook, but also looked forward to visits to her favorite restaurants and dining with her family. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Dorothy was very proud of her family and loving marriage to Cliff of over 60 years.
Surviving are her husband, Cliff of Fitchburg; their children, Gary (Marlene) Skovsted of Boulder, CO; Carol Skovsted of Wauwatosa, WI and Cheryl (Patrick) Godar of Madison, WI; grandchildren, Eric (Mary) Skovsted of St. Johnsbury, VT; Sonja (fiancé, Robert Scott) Skovsted of Portland, OR; Holly Godar and Bryna Godar of Madison, WI; one sister, Eunice Hecht of Racine; three sisters-in-law, Betty Hartig, Virginia (Bob) Repa, and Doris Skovsted of Racine; three brothers-in-law, Gilbert Skovsted of Fond du Lac, WI, Pete Christoffersen and Cal Thompson of Racine. She is further survived by many special nieces, nephews, other dear relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by three sisters, Dolores (Milton) Mogren, Irma (Louis) Anderson and June (Tony) Kraemer; four brothers, Louis (Gertrude) Hartig, Clifford (Ann) Hartig, Roy (Emily) Hartig and Harry Hartig; sisters-in-law, Faye Skovsted, LaVerne Christofferson, Beulah Thompson and Bernice (Dick) Dryer; brothers-in-law, Russell Skovsted, Raymond Hecht, and Marvin Skovsted.
Her funeral service will be celebrated at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday, January 29, 2010 at 12 noon, with Rev. Richard Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Friday before services from 11am until service time.
The family wishes to send a heartfelt note of thanks to the wonderful staff of St. Mary’s Care Center for the compassionate care and support that was so tenderly extended to Dorothy during her stay at the Center. God bless all of you! |

KENOSHA-Catherine Ann “Kay” (nee: Ruffolo) Sturino, 76, passed away at her residence surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday January 23, 2010. Kay was born in Kenosha on July 19, 1933 the daughter of Gabriel and Caroline (nee: Gentile) Ruffolo Sr. She was a graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School “Class of 1951”. Kay was united in marriage to Michael J. Sturino on June 9, 1951 in Kenosha. She was employed as a cook in the bakery/deli at Sentry Foods in Kenosha for 28 years retiring in 1989.
Kay found great enjoyment in reading, playing Bingo, attending flea markets and participating in the pontoon parade. She was fond of travel and loved her jewelry and crafts. Kay was an amazing cook and could whip up a ten-course meal with out any hesitation at a moments notice, when she was greeted with unexpected family and friends that would stop by to visit.
Kay was a loving and devoted wife and mother who was blessed with many dear friends, which included her woman’s club, that she was proud to be part of for over 50 years, along with the Red Hatters Club.
Kay and Mike lived in Kenosha until her retirement, then they relocated to Holcombe and spent many winters in Zephyrhills Florida, moving back to Kenosha in 2009 to be with their family. _
Kay is survived by her loving and devoted daughters, Linda Moser of Racine, Annette (Jeff) Palmen of Kenosha, Karen Kirkwood of Flint, Michigan, daughter-in-law, June Sturino of Kenosha, sister, Olivia Sturino, brothers, Gabriel Ruffolo, Richard Ruffolo, sisters-in-law, Gloria Sturino, Audrey Sturino and Edith (Ned) Sayles all of Kenosha. She is further survived by ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, special friend, Shirley Krogman of Eau Claire, and dear friends in Kenosha, Racine, Holcombe and Zephyrhills, Florida.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Mike on September 14, 2009, two sons, Thomas on July 6, 2008, and infant son at birth, her parents, brothers-in-law, George Sturino in 1997, Albert Sturino in 2007, and step-mother, Florence Greco Ruffolo in 2006.
Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday January 27, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mark Jones officiating. There will be a visitation at the Sturino Funeral Home on Tuesday January 26, 2010 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Kay’s name may be directed to the family to be used toward her favorite charity.

RACINE-Gary A. Miller, 50, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on January 17, 2010. He was born in Kenosha on July 11, 1959 the son of Ted and Lil (nee: Gross) Miller. Gary was a graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School “Class of 1977”. He owned and operated The Village Deli in Sturtevant along with his wife Jacqueline.
Gary was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs enthusiast, attending games at Wrigley Field as often as possible.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline beloved daughter, Liza and adoring grandson, Javon Jeremiah Edwards all of Racine. He is further survived by his mother, Lil Miller of Kenosha, brothers, James (Barb) Miller of Ohio, David (Pat) Miller, sister, Alice (Curt) Logan all of Racine.
Gary is also survived by his mother-in-law, Barb Filber, brothers-in-law, George “Butch” (Heidi) Filber and Daniel Filber, sisters-in-law, Susan Drenkhahn and Anna Filber all of Racine, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and dear friends in Racine, Kenosha and loyal customers of Village Deli.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ted Miller in 1975 and father-in-law, George Filber Jr. in 1994.
In keeping with the familiy’s wishes, private services have been held.

Geraldine ‘Sis’ (nee: Johnson) Eisenhut, 91, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2010, at Lakeshore Manor. Geraldine was born in Racine on September 26, 1918, the daughter of Harry and Clara (nee: Dase) Johnson. She was united in marriage to Bert Eisenhut on June 6, 1942, in Racine.
Geraldine was a lifelong member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church and a longtime member of Meadowbrook Country Club. She found great enjoyment in golfing, playing Yahtzee, various card games and was involved in numerous bowling leagues.
Geraldine is survived by her loving daughters, Karen Lofquist and Kay Johnson, both of Racine; nine grandchildren, Julie (Richard) Nelson, Diane (George) Sullivan, Scott (Dawn) Lofquist, Sharon (Randy) Moore, Bert (Lori) Seeger, Roger (Leslie) Lofquist Jr., Wendy (Ted) Cain, Jennifer (John) Kolp, Dennis (Marcy) Johnson Jr.; 17 great-grandchildren, Terry Cain, Maggie Cain, Jennell Kolp, Jacque Kolp, Christopher Nelson, David Nelson, Jason (Lisa) Koontz, Steven Seeger, Zachery Seeger, Liz Seeger, Tyler Sullivan, Blake Sullivan, Alannah Lofquist, Leah Lofquist, Austin Johnson, Alex Lofquist, Jack Lofquist; and one great-great-grandson, Ryan Koontz. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Bert, on October 30, 1991.
Funeral services for Geraldine will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Thursday January 21, 2010, at 11 a.m. with entombment at Graceland Cemetery Crypts. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lakeshore Manor or to the Juvenile Diabetes Association have been suggested.

RACINE - Maxine E. (nee: Olson) Ludwiczak, 82, passed away on her 82nd birthday January 12, 2010 at Ridgewood Care Center. She was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on January 12, 1928 the daughter of the late Edwin and Elsie (nee: Gilbertson) Olson. Maxine was a graduate of William Horlick High School. On August 7, 1948 she was united in marriage to Carl R. Swanson. He preceded her in death on October 14, 1980. On April 10, 1986 she was united in marriage to John Ludwiczak.
Maxine was a member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church since 1949; also a member of Johnson Park and Washington Park Women’s Golf Clubs. She was a volunteer for St. Mary’s Auxiliary. Maxine was especially proud of her Norwegian heritage, traveling there twice over the years with a contingency of family from across the United States.
Surviving is her husband, John; sons, Craig (Linda) Swanson of Brandon, FL and Scott (Julie) Swanson of Kirkland, WA; daughter Sharyl (Ross) Zeller of Kenosha; brother, Dr. Roger (Barbara) Olson of Frederick, MD; sister-in-law, Helen Christensen of Harlingen, TX; step children, Kathy (David) Sowinski, Janice Pisarek, Marilyn (Curt) Bolton and John (Becky) Ludwiczak; grandchildren, Megan (Jared) Brieske, Josh (Nicole) Zeller, Nate Zeller, Jason (Danielle) Swanson and Stacey (Jeff) Houck; great grandchildren, Holley Swanson, Jacob, Olivia and Kate Brieske, Jack and Owen Zeller and Ella Houck. She is further survivived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 2000 W. Sixth Street, on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Kathy Brown officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the church on Friday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Saturday before services from 9 a.m.until service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Holy Communion Food Pantry have been suggested.

Robert Ren Loomis, 83, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints, on Sunday January 10, 2010.
Robert was born on July 29, 1926, in Baraboo the son of Ren and Effie (nee: Bartlett) Loomis. He was united in marriage to Marcella Hinze on December 20, 1944 in Baraboo.
Robert proudly served in the U.S. Army and was employed at J.I. Case as a printer, retiring in 1989 after 30 years of service. He found great enjoyment in NASCAR racing, repairing lawn mowers and working outside with many never-ending projects.
Robert is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Gary) Halverson and Diane Schroeder; one son, Randall (Sharon) Loomis, all of Racine; along with six grandchildren, Michael, Christine, Julie and her husband Joel, Randall Jr., Steven and Joseph. He is further survived by seven great-grandchildren, Mikey, Melissa, Brianna, Seth, Ella, Alex and Jocelyn; one great-great-grandson, Andrew, all of Racine; three sisters, Edith, Ruby and Ruth, all of Baraboo; and sister-in-law, Mary Black of Florida.
Robert is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends in Racine and Baraboo. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marcella, in 1989; one daughter, Debra, in 1957; and two sisters, Clara and Margaret.
Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday, January 15, 2010, at noon. Burial will be follow at West Lawn Memorial Park with military honors. There will be a visitation on Friday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.

RACINE- Frank Peter Juras, 92, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints on Saturday, January 9, 2010. Frank was born in Racine on July 6, 1917, the son of Constantine and Victoria (nee: Karbowska) Juras. He was united in marriage to Georgette Boulard in Racine on November 8, 1941.
Frank proudly served his country during World War II with the Marine Corps from 27 August 1942 until 10 November 1945, honorably discharged as a Tech. Sergeant. He was employed at American Motors as a Drop Forge Supervisor retiring in May of 1982 with 23 years of service.
Frank is survived by his daughter-in-law, Robin Juras; grandson, Phillip (Lisa) Juras; granddaughter, Carri (Matt Holewinski) Juras all of Racine; great-granddaughter, Madison; and great- grandson, Mason; along with sisters, Bernice Kersten of Racine, Jean Simmons of North Carolina, Marge Decker of Arizona, and Rose Olson of Racine. Frank is also survived by brothers, Al Juras of Illinois and Constantine Juras of Milwaukee. He is further survived by special nephew, Mark Welch and niece, Annette (LeRoy) Clausen, all of Racine along with other relatives and dear friends, not to mention his beloved grand dogs, Muffy Juras and Cubbie Juras.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Georgette; son, Paul Juras on December 17, 2007; great grandson, Caleb Paul Juras on February 8, 2008; brothers, Joseph and John Juras; sister, Helen; along with sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Memorial services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at 7 p.m. with John Fleming of E.U.M. church officiating. There will be a memorial visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until service time at 7 p.m. |

RACINE – William J. Cook, 63, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Froedtert Memorial Hospital in Milwaukee. He was born at Ft. Bragg, NC on November 11, 1946 the son of Wesley and Opal (nee: Gregerson) Cook. William was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969. He was a graduate of William Horlick High School and MATC in Culinary Arts. Most recently he was employed at Spee0Dee Machinery in Sturtevant. William was united in marriage to Cynthia Jepsen on October 18, 1969 at Emmaus Lutheran Church, where they have been members for many years. He enjoyed fishing with his sons, watching Badger and Packer football with his wife and visiting their property up north.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 40 years, Cynthia; sons, Aaron (Rachel) Cook and Jonathan (Katie Schultz) Cook: sisters, Carol (Gary) Swiden and Sharon (Patrick) Devine; sister-in-law, Sharon Crandall. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Cook.
Memorial services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Monday, January 11, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mary Janz officiating. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Monday before services from 10 a.m. until service time. |

RACINE- Mary Frances Ladwig. 62, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints on Friday January 1, 2010. Mary was born in Milwaukee on September 24, 1947 the daughter of F. Milton and Catherine (nee: Madden) Ladwig.
She was a graduate of Mercy High School, in Milwaukee “Class of 1965” and Dominican College “Class of 1969” with a degree in Medical Technology. Mary was very proud of serving two years with the Peace Corp in Malaysia.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Johnson Ladies Golf League, Wednesday, Saturday and Sundays. Mary was a baseball, golf and cooking enthusiast. She was employed at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints as a Medical Technologist, retiring with 40 years of service.
Mary is survived by her fiancée, John Ballarini of Racine, brothers and sister, Alan (Barbara) Ladwig of Dallas, TX., David (Joeanne) Ladwig of Muskego, Catherine (Don) Gray of Sydney, Australia, Edward (Susan) Ladwig of Franklin, Milt (Terry) Ladwig of Oconomowoc, and Ken (Jill) Ladwig of New Berlin, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2201 Northwestern Ave. on Friday January 8, 2010 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Ronald Crewe officiating. Entombment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy. 32. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Thursday January 7, 2010 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m., and a visitation at church on Friday from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial to St. Vincent DePaul Society, Central Office, 926 LaSalle St. Racine, WI 53402 have been suggested.
