Mary Lee Herro RACINE – Mary Lee Herro passed away on June 30, 2010 at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints. Born in Middlesboro, Kentucky she was the daughter of Minnie (nee: Tamer) Latiff. She married Lester Herro who preceded her in death in 1996. They lived in Watertown, Wisconsin most of their married life.  Mary Lee was an avid golfer with a 14 handicap, including a hole in one. She loved bridge, earning a Bronze Life Master and was very close to becoming a Silver Life Master.

A vibrant woman and female entrepreneur in the 1950’s, she and her husband followed in the footsteps of her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Elizabeth Herro and opened Tot N Teen Shops in Wisconsin.  The in-laws opened the first theatre, ice cream parlor and tri county tobacco company in Watertown, where his name can be found on a building in downtown Watertown. She worked hard her whole life, creating a better life for her children, making sure that they could have as much education as they wanted.

Mary Lee is survived by her children Dr. L.J. Herro, (Optometrist), Dixie (nee: Herro) Van Remmen, teacher of Spanish, her two granddaughters, Jessica and her husband Brenden and their daughter, Charlotte. Her second granddaughter Kelly and her husband, Farris and his son Collin along with their son, Geoffrey.

In keeping with Mary Lee’s wishes a private family ceremony will be held at a later date.

We are so grateful to Wheaton Franciscan Hospital, the Hospice within the hospital, all of the doctors, nurses and other caregivers.  “You all made our experience so full of ease and love.”  Also our thanks to the Sturino Funeral Home for honoring her requests with efficiency and respect.

 
Mildred A. Breidenbach "Mickey" RACINE – Mildred A. (nee: Ortmann) Breidenbach “Mickey”, 91, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2010 at Ridgewood Care Center. Mickey was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 2, 1918, the daughter of Robert and Anna (nee: Laabs) Ortmann. She was united in marriage to William Breidenbach on March 21, 1939.

Mickey was truly a remarkable woman, who lived a rich life during which she touched many hearts.  In a number of ways she was ahead of her time, as she designed her own home in Eagle, Wisconsin, held leadership roles in various civic organizations (e.g. past President of The Eagle Lioness Club, etc.), and traveled the world with her husband Bill.  Mickey excelled at entertaining in her home and enjoyed sewing (especially formals/party dresses) and spoiling her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Her “bubbly” spirit will always be remembered as a blessing by those who knew and loved her.

Mickey is survived by her loving children, Cynthia Sorg of Racine, Terry (Rosemary) Breidenbach of Racine, and Bonnie Pettit (Harvey McDonald) of Chandler, Arizona; grandchildren, Rob (Terri) Sorg, Suzette Sorg, Mark (Leslie) Breidenbach, and Michelle (Mike) Lovey; great grandchildren, Katie, Alex, Lauren, Kara, James and Gracie. She was preceded in death by her husband, William on November 2, 1986.

Funeral services for Mickey will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Warren Williams officiating. Mickey will be laid to rest next to her husband at West Lawn Memorial Park following services.  Visitation will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Memorials to the Eagle Historical Society (Mickey was a long time supporter) or The Eagle Lioness Club have been suggested.

 
Donald 'Hinge' Hefferon RACINE – Donald ‘Hinge’ Hefferon, 85, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Bay Pointe at the Atrium. Donald was born on August 11, 1924 the son of James and Edna (nee: Churchill) Hefferon in Praire du Chien, Wisconsin.  He was united in marriage to I. Virginia Holmberg on August 4, 1945 in Prairie du Chien, WI.

Donald was employed at J. I. Case Company for 12 years and Milwaukee Crane Company for four years on their Cape Canaveral and Niagara Falls Projects. He retired in 1986 after 23 years as Asst. Chief Inspector at Twin Disc, Inc.

Donald was an active member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, The Racine Racquetball Club and the Masonic Lodge.

Donald is survived by his daughter, Jenny Hefferon and her husband Carlyle Maw of North Palm Beach, FL; one grandson, Beckett (Kristine) Eisenreich of Wauwatosa, WI; three great granddaughters, Kordelia, Klaudia and Klarissa; one sister, Patricia (Russell) Schultz of Cedar Falls, IA and one sister-in-law, Alice Hefferon of Racine, WI.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife, I. Virginia Hefferon in 2003; a daughter, Jessica in 1955 and two brothers.

Funeral services for Donald will be held at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 322 Ohio St. on Tuesday June 29, 2010 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Dr. M.A. Miritz officiating. All are invited to meet in the church fellowship hall following services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.

 
Curtis Bryan Lockrem RACINE-Curtis Bryan Lockrem, 71, passed away on Thursday June 24, 2010 at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints. Curt was born in Minneapolis, Minn. on November 3, 1938 the son of Carl and Connie (nee: Morin) Lockrem. He was united in marriage to Nancy Jensen on June 28, 1958. Curt was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1956” and went on to further his education throughout his life. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1956 until 1961 stationed in Charleston, S.C. Upon honorable discharge, Curt started his working career with Modine Manufacturing, in the field of time study, ultimately focusing on         industrial engineering. He continued his working career at A.M.C./Chrysler, retiring on January 31, 1994. In his retirement years Curt was employed at Century 21, Savaglio Real Estate Company. Curt found great enjoyment in spending time “up north” and any thing to do with his “projects” especially woodworking, aviation and computer research. He always looked forward to his early morning breakfast gatherings at Rosie’s Diner with dear friends. 

Curt is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy and his true gifts from God his children, Linda (James) Haas, David (Deb) Lockrem, Leslie (Mark) Ebener, Steven Lockrem and nine grandchildren, Stephanie, Valorie  and Alan Haas, Megan, Melissa and Mariah Ebener, Connor, Calina and Carter Lockrem, who gave him the strength and will to keep going. He is further survived by one brother, Doug (Bonnie) Lockrem, sisters-in-law, Shirley (Alvin) Jensen, Marilyn Jensen and Pamela Opahle (Oscar) along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and all those who knew him as “Uncle Curt”. Curt is also survived by cousins, Sharon, Judy and Jim, friend Ellen Geyer along with best friend, Bill (Marlene) Whiteaker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Connie Lockrem, sister and brother-in-law, Lorna (John) Lamers, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Marian (Hansen) Jensen along with best friend Gordy Geyer.

Funeral services for Curt will be held on Thursday July 1, 2010, 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church 3700 Washington Ave, with Rev. Thomas Chryst and Rev. Randal Poppe officiating. Curt will be laid to rest at West Lawn Memorial Park with full military honors following services. Visitation will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. and at church on Thursday from 10 until service time at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Grace Lutheran Church would be appreciated.

  RACINE – Frank A. Alioto Jr., 92, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.  Funeral services will be held at Kimissis tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 10 a.m. with Rev. John Ketchum officiating.  Burial with full military honors will follow at Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and associates on Thursday, July 8, 2010 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Sturino Funeral Home, with the traditional Greek Orthodox Trisagion Service for the Dead at 8 p.m.  A complete obituary will appear at a later date.
 
- Del Mae M.  Halberstadt RACINE - Del Mae M. (nee: Gatzke) Halberstadt, 80, passed away on Thursday June 24, 2010 at Franciscan Villa, South Milwaukee. Del Mae was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on November 13, 1929, the daughter of the late Alfred and Relindas (nee: Heuer) Gatzke. She was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1948”.  On June 21, 1952, Del Mae was united in marriage to Glenn R. ‘Smitty’ Halberstadt at Trinity Lutheran Church. Del Mae found great enjoyment in bowling and was secretary of a Douglas bowling league for many years. She was very active with Second Presbyterian Church as a substitute church organist and found great joy in singing in their choir and teaching children’s choir.

Del Mae is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Glen (Lora) Halberstadt of Racine; grandson, Ryan Glenn, granddaughter, Lillian Mae; brother-in-law, Donald Christensen, sisters-in-law, Marge (Bill) Jensen and Elizabeth Halberstadt all of Racine. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends in Racine and Green Bay.

Del Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Smitty on July 30, 2004, sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Betty (Carl “Butsy”) Halberstadt, Richard Halberstadt, sisters, Dolores Christensen, Audrienne Hanson and a brother, Alfred Gatzke.

Funeral services for Del Mae will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Monday June 28, 2010, 11 a.m. with Rev. Alan McCalister of Second Presbyterian Church officiating.

Del Mae will be laid to rest next to her husband Smitty, at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will he be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 until 5 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the Halberstadt family would appreciate memorials to St. Monica’s Senior Home, 3920 N. Green Bay Road, Racine, WI  53404.

Del Mae’s family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at St. Monica’s for the compassionate and spiritual care they provided.

 
Martha L. Schmidt RACINE – Martha L. (nee: Schulz) Schmidt, 92, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints.  She was born in Westpreussen, Germany on June 5, 1918, the daughter of Gustav and Augusta (nee: Timm) Schulz.  Martha was united in marriage to Rudolf Schmidt on October 7, 1961 in Warren, Michigan.  She attended the German Church of God.  Martha worked on the family farm and loved gardening and baking.

Surviving is her niece, Gittly Hinkelman of Racine; great nieces and nephews, Ruth (Tom) DeGripp, Sonya Hinkelmann, Christa (Chris) Sabo all of Michigan, Helmut, Ralph and Andreas Wagner and families all of Racine.  She is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends in Racine and Germany.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rudolf on November 19, 2000; sister, Frieda Boettcher on December 21, 1988 and four brothers.

Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Paul Henschel officiating.  Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.  There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday before services from 10 a.m. until service time.

Memorials to Church of God, York, NE have been suggested.

Eugene "Tod" Linstroth RACINE-Eugene “Tod” Linstroth, 88, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints on Sunday June 13, 2010. Tod was born in  Racine on September 15, 1921 the son of Edward and Florence (nee: Eisner)          Linstroth. He was a graduate of Park High School “Class of 1939”. Tod was united in marriage to Gloria Christensen on March 4, 1943 in Polacois, Texas. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II, involved in the D-Day Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge, and was stationed in Germany. Tod was employed as a U.S. Postal Carrier, retiring in 1980 after many years of service.

He was a former member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church, was very involved in Ives Grove Senior Golf League and the Winchester Gun Club.  Being an avid outdoorsman, Tod had a passion for deer hunting and Canadian fishing.  He was an accomplished handball player, enjoyed square dancing with his beloved wife Gloria, with the Fiddle Stompers Square Dance Club and was very proud that he built his own home, which he lived in for over 54 years.

Tod is surivived by sons, Tod (Jane) Linstroth of Madison, John Linstroth and James (Joan) Linstroth all of Raymond, nine grandchildren, Katy, Krista (Erik) Szyndlar, Kassie, Kyle, Kelly, Matt, Tricia, Brian (Lisa) and Megan and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Madeline, and his dear friend and care giver, Anna Polasz. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends, especially his canine companion, Whitey Jr.

Funeral services for Tod will be held at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1425 Grove Ave. on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 11a.m. Tod will be laid to rest next to his wife, Gloria, at Calvary Cemetery on Kinzie Ave. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 until 7 p.m. and at church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Wisconsin Parkinson Association, Aurora Sinai Medical Center, 945 North 12th Street, Suite 4602, Milwaukee, WI 53233 have been suggested by Linstroth family.

James F. McMillen RACINE- James F. McMillen, 59, passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully at his residence on Tuesday June 8, 2010. James was born in Madison on June 30, 1950 the son of Francis and Lois Margaret (nee: Endres) McMillen. He proudly served his country in the Air National Guard for 20 years, soon to retire the end of this month, with the rank of Master Sergeant. James retired from the Waunakee Volunteer Fire Dept. with over 20 years of service. He was an operating engineer and current member of Union #139 for the past several years. He was also co-owner of McMillen Excavating, having been involved with the construction business with his father, Mac for many years. 

James thoroughly enjoyed the Green Bay Packers, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and tinkering on anything mechanical. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, children, grandchildren and his large extended family. James was affectionately know by many as “Papa Smirf”

James is survived by his fiancée Terri (nee: Oakes) Bealhen, of Racine, children, Chad McMillen of Madison, Shauna McMillen, of Poynette, Dana McMillen of Calif. Amie Bealhen and D.J. Bealhen of Racine. He is also survived by grandchildren, Shayla, Andriahna, Zackary and Kainin, mother, Lois (Keith) Hohlstein of Waunakee, former wife and friend, Gloria McMillen of Waunakee and brother, Richard (Tammy) McMillen also of Waunakee. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends in Racine, Madison and surrounding communities. James was preceded in death by his father, Francis “Mac”, one brother, Scott and one sister, Margaret.

Funeral services for James will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Saturday June 12, 2010 at 12 noon, with Vernon Wienke, American Legion Dept. of Wis. Chaplain, 1st District, officiating. James will be laid to rest following services at West Lawn Memorial Park with full military honors. Visitation will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at 12 noon.

 
 

Bruce died peacefully in his sleep on June 7, 2010.  Bruce was a beloved father and husband and loved his family and friends.  Bruce was a lifelong resident of Racine, born February 18, 1948 to Irene G. Nielsen (nee; Chapas) and Clayton H. Nielsen. Bruce attended Racine schools and graduated from Horlick in 1966. He was involved in various sports and is said to have had "one mean knuckleball" on Horlick's baseball team.

He went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received degrees in Structural Engineering and Construction Management.  He then joined the family business, Nielsen Iron Works, following college.  In 1983, Bruce, his two brothers (Jim and Dale Nielsen), and partner Tom Johnson formed Nielsen Building Systems, Inc. and was the company's President and Engineer.  The company has built a number of local buildings, including a portion of Miller Park.

Bruce was a former president of the Racine Jaycees and was involved in local construction related organizations. He was an avid gardener, spending many hours in his gardens at home and work; always choosing to eat his fresh garden vegetables over kringle and sweets. He enjoyed softball, bowling, and volleyball. He kept active during the long Wisconsin winters by playing tennis at the Racine Tennis Club. Bruce was a friendly, talkative man who loved randomly running into old friends and stopping to catch up at various summer festivals. He loved to make Sunday lunches on the grill by the pool. A dog lover, Bruce treated his pets as part of the family and whenever possible had them at his side.  They would accompany him on job site visits and he would bring them to the office like firehouse dogs each day after 4:00pm.

Bruce was looking forward to the July wedding of his son Scott to Kathryn Anderson of Chicago whom he embraced into the family. Bruce is survived by his wife of 34 years Sandi, daughter Jennifer of Madison and son Scott of Chicago. Further survived by his father Clayton; two brothers, Jim and Dale(Beth) Nielsen; mother-in-law Edna Ridley; brothers and sister-in-law John Ridley of North Dakota and Diane(Randy) Striegel of Wyoming; nephews and nieces Alex and Ross(Elizabeth) Nielsen, Christo(Tracy) and Erica Nielsen, Jory and Amelia Striegel, and Jeremy and James(Cari) Ridley. Bruce is preceded in death by his mother Irene G. Nielsen, father-in-law Ken Ridley, and nephew Josh Striegel.

In keeping with the wishes of Bruce and Sandi, the family is having a private service.   A Memorial Visitation will be held at the Sturino Funeral Home on Thursday, June 10, 2010 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

 
Richard D. "Goz" Miller RACINE- Richard D. “Goz” Miller, 81, passed away on Wednesday June 2, 2010, at Ridgewood Care Center. Richard was born in Racine on October 24, 1928 the son of Walton and Leona (nee: Peil) Miller. He was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1946” and went on to further his education by earning a degree in business from U.W. Madison. Richard proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Nancy J. Jerabek in Racine on August 20, 1955. Richard formerly attended St. Andrew Lutheran Church and most recently worshiped at Racine Bible Church when he was able. He was an avid golfer in his earlier years and enjoyed the Green Bay Packers. Most of all Richard loved his family, especially his wife Nancy of almost 46 years. For many years Richard was co-owner with his brother, Austin, of W.H. Miller Co. contractors and homebuilders.

Richard is survived by his sons, Steve (Elizabeth) Miller of Racine, Walton Hoy “Skip” (Janie) Miller III of Madison, five grandchildren, Pastor Daniel Miller, Stephanie “NieNie”, Peter, Sarah, and Nick Miller. He is also survived by his brother, Austin of Racine, nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy on August 9, 2001, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services for Richard will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Saturday June 5, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with his grandson, Pastor Daniel Miller officiating. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony next to his wife at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time at 10:30 a.m.

Richard L. Tishken RACINE-Richard L. Tishken, 64, passed away at his residence on Saturday May 29, 2010. Richard was born in Racine on November 10, 1945 the son of John and Mildred “Mickie” (Droysen) Tishken. Richard was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1962”. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Richard was united in marriage to Gail Marie Hermann on June 8, 1984 in Racine. He was a former member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Richard was employed at Johnson Wax retiring on January 4, 2009 after 39 years of service. In his spare time he enjoyed many hours of entertaining himself with his music collection and playing games on his computer. He could be found shopping; antiquing and he always had a special flair for unique and creative decorating. Richard was an avid collector of Coca-Cola memorabilia, along with most anything to do with Marilyn Monroe and 50’s and 60’s music artifacts. Above all Richard was extremely generous and very kind to others.

Richard is survived by three children, Jessica Nichole Tishken, Zachary Jon Tishken and Aaron Michael Tishken, along with his friend, former wife and companion, Gail Tishken and granddaughter, Niah McKim Tishken all of Racine. He is further survived by sister, Virginia (Dr. Tom) Lange of Maplewood, Minn., brother, James (Judy) Tishken, all of Racine, sister, Patricia (Dan) Duffey of Phoenix, Ariz. and Jonathan Tishken of Maplewood, Minn. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred “Mickie” on March 27, 2010, father, John in August of 1999, brother, Charles in 2004 and nephew, John M. Lange in 2005.

Funeral services for Richard will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Monday June 7, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Donald Johnson officiating. Richard will be laid to rest at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery with full military honors. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Sunday June 6, 2010 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time.

Richard’s family would like to extend a very special thank-you to Georgia, his dietician aid for helping him with his diabetes management during these past several months.

 
  RACINE – Donna Mae (nee: Steinman) Nelson, 69, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2010 at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints.

DonnaMae was born in Racine on October 11, 1940 the daughter of Fred and LaVerne (nee: Mueller) Steinman.

She was a graduate of Wm. Horlick High School “Class of 1958”. On June 4, 1960, DonnaMae was united in marriage to the love of her life Thomas A. Nelson, who preceded her in death on April 19, 2007. DonnaMae was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was employed at J.I. Case, Jacobsen and Infusino’s on Washington Ave.

DonnaMae is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Dennis (Sharon) Nelson; three granddaughters, Stephanie O’Brien, Sara Hellesen and Sabrina Hellesen, four great grandchildren, Izayah and Seth Hellesen,   Ilyana Talavera and Skyler Morrison. She is further survived by sisters-in-law, Lois Brown, Carol Steinman and Jan Nelson, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

DonnaMae was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Dennis, Larry and Bill Steinman and brothers-in-law, Bob, Jim and Ed Nelson.

Funeral services for DonnaMae will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Monday June 7, 2010 at 7 p.m.

DonnaMae will be laid to rest next to her husband, Thomas at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday at 1 p.m. (please meet at the cemetery chapel)

There will be a visitation at the Sturino Funeral Home on Monday from 5 p.m. until service time at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.
