Marie A. Kronwolf

Racine - Marie A. (nee: Uminski) Kornwolf 93, passed away on Monday October 26, 2009 at Ridgewood Care Center. Marie was born in Racine, Wisconsin on April 17, 1916, daughter of Joseph and Clara (nee: Klein) Uminski.  On Sept. 5, 1936,at St. Edward's Catholic church. She was united in marriage to William Kornwolf.  He preceded her in death on February 17, 1987.

Marie spent her years as a homemaker and volunteered her time for many organizations at Trautwein School where her sons attended elementary school. She was a member of the Racine Travel Club and traveled extensively throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Europe.  She was also a member of St. Richard's Catholic Church.

In addition to her husband, Marie was preceded in death by two sons, infant Dan William, and Dennis Kornwolf; also three brothers, Bernard, Vernal, and George Uminski.

Marie is survived by two sons, Bill of Sao Paulo Brazil and Naples, Florida; Timothy (Anita) of North Branch, Minnesota; daughters-in-law Marion Kornwolf of Racine;  Annette Galvin of Scottsdale, Arizona; 7 grandchildren, Michael,Denise, Mary Lynn, Colleen, Andrea, Craig, and Ryan; and 12 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at the West Lawn Memorial Park Chapel.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the cemetery chapel on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 from 2:30 until 3:30. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Ridgewood Care Center and Odyssey Hospice for all their compassionate care.

 
Thelma Kathryn Timler

RACINE – Thelma Kathryn (nee: Rosenquist) Timler, 99, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints. She was born in Elgin, Illinois on January 17, 1910, the daughter of Carl and Ada Catherine (nee: Straub) Rosenquist. On November 28, 1929 Thelma was united in marriage to Walter R. Timler at Trinity Lutheran Church.

She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, active for many years in Ladies Aid, a charter member of Racine Lutheran High School Ladies Guild, an original member of the school’s Hashlinger Band.

Thelma is survived by two daughters, Marlene Wohlust and Joyce (William) Maher all of Racine daughter in law, Barbara Timler of Cecil, Wisconsin. Thelma will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Theodore and Jacqueline, Mary Catherine and Richard, Tara and Steve, Tim Jay, Michele, Desiree, Tadd and Stacy, Carla and Richard, Leslie and Kenneth.

She is also survived by 23 great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren, and sister, Dorothy Hoffman of Racine. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Walter on March 22, 1982; son, Donald Timler in 2003, grandson, Dirk, son-in-law, Glenn Wohlust, in 2003, two sisters, Esther Brogan and Ruth Miller and two brothers, Edward Rosenquist and Paul Rosenquist.

Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2065 Geneva St. on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Gehne officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the church on Wednesday before services from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church or Racine Lutheran High School have been suggested.

 
Gloria Mae Bolm, 72, of Franksville, Wisconsin passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2009. She was born on October 28, 1937 in Lodi, Wisconsin, the daughter of Bernice and Gerald Walstad. Gloria lived and attended schools in Menomonie, WI and graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, where she met her husband Jim Bolm.

Jim and Gloria were married in 1959 at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie, WI. She taught at Libertyville H.S. in Libertyville, IL. They moved to Racine in 1966 where they established a life filled with family, friendship and community involvement.

Gloria committed herself to many civic, social, cultural and spiritual organizations in the Racine area. She was very active in the Racine Junior League, and served as its President. As part of her commitment to the Junior League, Gloria served on the

Monument Square Art Fair Board and as Chairman and Restoration Director of the Racine Blake House. She was deeply involved in Big Sisters of Greater Racine, volunteering as a “Big Sister” for six years and serving as Director. Gloria received the honor of becoming the first woman ever elected to the Racine Zoological Society Board of Directors.

Additionally, Gloria served on the Board of Directors for the Taylor Home, United Way, Wustum Museum and the Racine Community Foundation. In recognition for her dedicated service to these organizations, Gloria was named “Woman of the Year” by the Women’s Civic Council in 1981.

Gloria was a beautiful, talented and intelligent woman who had a special eye for antiques and decorating. She used those attributes to good effect jointly operating the Schoolhouse Shoppes, a home accessories and gift store established in partnership with four other women. Gloria loved to entertain, travel, and spend time with her children and grandchildren. She especially loved being at her second home in Beaver Creek, Colorado, skiing and hiking with her family and friends. Her life was filled with special people and she was loved by many.

Gloria is survived by her husband Jim, daughters Nancy (Jerome Joseph) Veranth of Franksville, WI and Sarah Bolm, of Chicago, IL. She was known as ‘Amie’ to her grandchildren Christopher, Andrew, Owen and Natalie, and her grand dog Piper. In addition, she leaves behind many loving relatives and countless friends.

Visitations will be held on Monday, November 2, 2009, from 4:00 -7:00 p.m., and Tuesday, November 3 from 10:30 a.m.– 11:30 a.m., at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 2000 W. 6th Street, Racine WI. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Communion Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, Gloria wished donations to be made to Holy Communion Lutheran Church, Gloria Bolm Memorial, 2000 W. 6th Street, Racine, Wisconsin 53405 and Racine Community Foundation, Bolm Fund, 245 Main Street, Racine, WI 53403.

The family also wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Oncology Alliance and Wheaton Franciscan Hospital for their compassionate care.

 
Frederick J. Sherwood

CALEDONIA – Frederick J. “Fred” Sherwood, 61, passed away at his residence on Friday, October 16, 2009. Fred was born in Racine on January 26, 1948, the son of Wesley and LaVerne (nee: Kobal) Sherwood.

He was a 1967 graduate of William Horlick High School. Fred was employed at Scan-O-Matic and most recently with Midland Container.He enjoyed working with his hands and building many items for his family and friends.

Fred is survived by his stepmother, Joyce Sherwood; brother, Mark (Cathy) Sherwood of Racine; sisters, Mary LaFever (nee: Sherwood) of Friendship and Brenda White of Kentucky; nieces, Alyssa, Jessica and Beth; nephews, Josh and Mike; great-nieces, Nevaeh and Amber; and great-nephew, Caleb. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his mother, LaVerne (Kobal) Sherwood; and father, Wesley Sherwood.

Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Tuesday October 20, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Miesel of Racine Bible Church officiating. Burial will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park.

There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Monday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.

 
Dorothy E. Salvo

Dorothy E. (nee: Hoffman) Salvo, 91, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Becker Shoop Center. She was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on September 19, 1918, the daughter of William B. and Clara (nee: Matson) Hoffman.

On October 9, 1944, she was united in marriage to Ray Salvo at Holy Communion Lutheran Church. Dorothy was a 1936 graduate of Washington Park High School. She was an active member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church and VFW Auxiliary Post #10301. Before Dorothy’s marriage to Ray she was a librarian at Young Radiator, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Later she was a librarian at Holy Communion Lutheran Church and a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed knitting, but most of all she enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker.

Dorothy is survived by her son, John (Barb) Salvo; daughters, Jean (John) Gandee and Marilynn (Nick) Thielen all of Racine; six grandchildren, Jolie Sanders, Jana (Ben) Lipari, Kelly Thielen, Kim (Tim) Gleason, Nicole Gandee and Tamara (Hunter) Scott; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Salvo of Racine and Jeanette Salvo of Florida; and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, on September 19, 1998; and a daughter, Janice, on August 12, 1958.

Funeral services will be held at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 2000 W. Sixth St., on Saturday, October 17, 2009, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Barrow officiating. Private burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Holy Communion Church Building Fund have been suggested.

A very special heartfelt thank you to Becker Shoop Center for the fine care given to Dorothy over the years.

 
Gilbert J. Olle

Gilbert J. Olle, 83, passed away on Columbus Day, October 12, 2009, with his family at his home. He was born on June 8, 1926, to Florence (nee. Chadek) and John T. Olle, on the family farm. From 1947 to 1988 he worked at the American Motors Corporation and took a life-long interest in the American automobile industry. In addition to working in Kenosha, Gil operated the 50-acre farm near Franksville that has been in the Olle family for four generations.

Gil loved his family and friends unconditionally and had a gentle sense of humor. He enjoyed his weekly breakfast group with neighbors and monthly Italian restaurant night with co-workers from Kenosha. Gil loved nature and could identify every bird and tree. As late as this summer he planted and harvested his garden: onions, peppers, tomatoes, squash, pumpkins and sweet corn. Gil developed an interest in cooking and always liked to grill outdoors. He subscribed to both the Racine and Milwaukee newspapers.

His son, John, and his daughter-in-law, Kathy (nee. Moran) built a house next door and Gil took joy in his granddaughters, Kristin and Jenny Lauren. Gil regularly visited his daughters Pat and Linda, and son-in-law Hal Kennedy, in New York City. He took a cross-country trip with Linda to Yellowstone Park in 1990 and with Pat he traveled to France and Spain, Kenya and Tanzania, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Mexico and other countries. Gil took many hunting and canoeing trips with John.

Along with his son, John Olle, daughters Linda Olle and Pat Olle, granddaughters Kristin and Jenny Lauren, he is survived by his beloved sister LaVerne Leonard and brother-in-law, Earl, and nieces Mary Leonard and Joan Leonard and family. And by his close companion, Myrlene Fox and former wife, Rita Olle (nee. Meyer).

Services for Gil will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday October 16, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ronald Crewe officiating. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Burial will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park.

The family thanks Mary Dolensek and Hospice Alliance for the compassionate care shown to Gil.

 
Margaret B. Heath

RACINE – Margaret B. (nee: Hoernke) Heath, 97, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2009 with her family by her side. She was born in Milwaukee on August 5, 1912, the daughter of Paul and Rose (nee: Scheenamann) Hoernke. Margaret was a graduate of Bay View High School in Milwaukee. She was united in marriage in Milwaukee to Harold F. Heath of Houghton-Le-Spring, England in 1938. Margaret was the manager of the drapery and curtain department of Goldblatts Department Store for more than 16 years. She also was employed at 16 Plus at Regency Mall until her retirement in 1990.

Margaret is survived by her son, Allan (Evelyn) Heath of Ft. Meyers Beach, FL; 3 daughters, Cynthia (William) Glenn of Titusville, FL, Linda Heath of Milwaukee and Barbara (Ronald) Hirshman of Franklin; 12 grandchildren, Clayton (Anne) Heath, Corey Heath, Joelle Hafer, Dawn (Bill) Liebly, Laura Straka, Lisa (Michael) Maxey, Tammy Vollmer, Jeffrey (Lori) Vollmer, Erin Heath, Melinda Hirshman, Jennifer (Justin) Slaby, Joe Hirshman, ; 19 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Joanne Heath. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold on March 19, 1971; son, Clayton J. Heath on Oct. 20, 1993; grandson, Timothy Heath on May 22, 2001; brother, Gilbert Hoernke; sisters, Evelyn Unglaub, Viola Hintz, Dorothy Keesling and Lorraine Matto.

Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Thursday before services from 11:30 a.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.

Private burial will take place at Arlington Park Cemetery in Greenfield.

 
George Faz Cruz

RACINE – George Faz Cruz, 80, surrounded by his family, God called his loving son home, on Tuesday, October 6, 2009. He was born in Millett, Texas on April 23, 1929, the son of Francisco and Aurora (nee: Faz) Cruz. On September 6, 1946 George was united in marriage to Argentina Guyllen in Racine. He was a member of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church, the LULAC Club and J. I. Case 20 Year Club. George was a coremaker for J. I. Case Company for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed getting together with family and friends, especially during the summer and holidays.

George is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Argentina and their children; Mary Cruz (Bob Siehr), Sylvia (Richard) LaCosse, Elia (Jerry) Mendez, Ermalinda (Mike) Nelsen, Esther (Ralph) Hall, George (Delores) Cruz Jr., David (Mireya Ortega) Cruz and Larry Cruz; 12 grandchildren; 27½ great grandchildren; two sisters, Teresa (Louis) Martinez and Eva (Pablo) Amaya. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends in both Racine and Texas.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Aurora, granddaughter, Kimberly LaCosse; great granddaughter, Erin Eiben; dear uncles, Carlos (Bertha) Faz, Alonzo Cruz Sr., special cousins; Reyes Cruz Sr., Fred Faz, Elida Faz and nephews, Ricky, O.C. and Danny Amaya.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave. on Monday, October 12, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mark Jones officiating. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until mass time.


The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Doctors Odders, Taylor and Willis and their staff, for all of their care and compassion and also to the caregivers from Hospice. We will never forget all you have done for our George.
