Michael J. "Mike" Sturino

KENOSHA - Michael J. “Mike” Sturino, 80, passed away at his residence with his family at his side in Kenosha, on September 14, 2009. Mike was born in Kenosha on January 13, 1929 the son of Costantino and Caroline (nee: Dattilo) Sturino. He was employed at American Motors/Chrysler, working in the Tool Crib, retiring in 1987 after 30 years of service. Mike also owned Alum-A-Style Awnings and Windows, Mike’s Snow Plow, sand stone and gravel companies.

Mike was united in marriage to Catherine “Kay” Ruffolo in Kenosha on June 9, 1951 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

He found his greatest enjoyment in his family in addition to fishing and hunting. Along with his family he found peace and respite in spending time at their Lake Holcombe home, in northern Wisconsin, and wintering in Zephyrhills, Florida. Mike found great enjoyment in making Italian favorites such as Italian sausage, Capicola, Sopressatta, and many other Italian favorites. He could always be found in his garage in his beloved workshop, “His second home” fixing and repairing anything he could find.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Kay, their children, Linda Moser, Annette (Jeff) Palmen, all of Kenosha, Karen Kirkwood of Flint, Michigan, daughter-in-law, June Sturino of Kenosha, ten grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He is further survived by one sister, Edith (Ned) Sayles, two sisters-in-law, Gloria and Audrey Sturino, all of Kenosha, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends in Kenosha, Racine, Holcombe and Florida.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Thomas “Tom”
on July 6, 2008; two brothers, George on February 5, 1997 and Albert on May 16, 2007.

Funeral services will be at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday, September 18, 2009 at 11 a.m. There will be visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family to be directed to Mike’s favorite sporting charity would be appreciated.

 
Albert A. Quinn Racine-Albert A. Quinn, 61, passed away at W.F.H.-All Saints on Friday, September 11, 2009. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 1, 1947 the son of Isham and Susie (Darling) Quinn, and was raised in Birmingham, Alabama, moving to Chicago as a young man. Albert was united in marriage to Judi Roang in Racine on June 24, 1972 at Holy Communion Lutheran Church.

He graduated from U. W. Parkside, class of “1980” with a degree in communications. Albert served in the United States Marines Corps from 1968 until 1970 and continued his military service in the Marine Reserves.

He was a longtime member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church and served for many years as an usher. Albert owned and operated Vinyl Touch Siding and Home Improvement since 1994. His main passion in life was people, in the cultivation of family, friends and stories.

Albert is survived by his wife of 37 years, Judi, son, Ryan (Katie) Quinn, daughter Johanna Quinn all of New York City, son, Derick Hill and two grandsons, Derick Hill Jr. and Allen Charles Hill all of Long Beach, Calif.

He is further survived by twin brother, James (Grace) Quinn of Las Vegas, N.V., brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Albert was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Larry and Charles Quinn, and one sister, Betty Jean Perryman.

Memorial services will be held at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 2000 W. 6thStreet, on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Kathy Brown officiating. There will be a memorial visitation at church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family or to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.

 
  RACINE – Stella Wyma, 96, passed away on Thursday, September 03, 2009 at Washington Manor, Looking into Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. Hebrew 12:2

Stella was born in Friesland, Netherlands on April 9, 1913, the daughter of Lipke and Cornelia (nee: Doktor)Wyma. On August 1920 the family moved to the United States and settled in Racine. They became members of the Christian Reformed Church. Stella worked at Massey Ferguson for 28 years, retiring in 1976.

Stella is survived by niece, Sue (Donald) Jaeck; nephews, Lowell (Carol) Wyma, Charles (Carolyn) Wyma and Howie Latshaw, special friend Peter Bosha. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, George in 1991, sister-in-law, Marguerite in 1998 and a niece, Lois Latshaw.

Funeral services will be held at Racine Christian Reformed Church, 900 Illinois St. on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Doug Aldrink officiating. Private burial will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday before services from 10 a.m. until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Johns Lutheran School or Racine Christian School have been suggested.

Thomas Curtis Hall*Click on picture for tribute RACINE – Thomas Curtis Hall, 84, passed away peacefully at Ridgewood Care Center on Thursday, September 3, 2009. He was born on June 19, 1925 in Racine to the late Curtis and Florence (nee: Peterson) Hall. On October 29, 1949 he was united in marriage to Donna M. Fechner at Bethel Methodist Church in Racine. Tom graduated from Washington Park High School and enlisted in the United States Navy and honorable served from September 1943 thru April 1946. He served aboard the USSLCS (L) #7 as a radioman 3/C and survived when the ship was attacked by a Japanese suicide boat at 0310 hours, on February 16, 1945, and sank at Mariveles Bay area of the Philippines. He was taken to Samar by a Red Cross Hospital ship to recover from his injuries and spent four months there until the Navy could confirm his enlistment since his dog tags were lost when his ship went down. He received the Purple Heart for helping a fellow injured crewman stay afloat after the sinking until help arrived. Tom faithfully served on the Racine Fire Department from 1951-1985. In 1969 the department was awarded a Class 1 rating, only seven other departments in the nation held that distinction at the time. Along with his fellow firefighters he was proud of the departments accomplishment. Tom retired as a captain of Truck 3, Station #2 after 34 years of service and enjoyed his time and friends on the department. In his retirement he liked woodworking and tinkering around the house and scratch built a model of the ship he served one.

Tom is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Donna; son, Thomas Hall; sisters-in-law, Sharon Patzke and Lilly Fechner and other nieces and nephews. Many dear friends including lifelong friend, Harry Nielsen.

Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 10 a.m. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday, before services from 9 a.m. until time of service. Entombment with full military honors will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Cancer Society or the Racine Fire Bells have been suggested.
