James "Bud" Dykstra

James ‘Bud’ Dykstra CALEDONIA – James ‘Bud’ Dykstra, 84, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2012 at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints, with his family by his side. Bud was born in Racine on May 15, 1928 the son of the late Sieberen and Jessie (nee: Friesema) Dykstra. On August 23, 1947, Bud was united in marriage to Dorothy Hagen in Racine. He started his working career farming with his dad, moving on to trucking. After working for the Town of Caledonia and Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Bud retired from Racine County Highway Dept. He ventured in to his own business, owning and operating D&M Excavating. Bud enjoyed deer hunting, took great pride in his yard, growing and caring for his flowers and was well known for his landscaping skills. His greatest pride was his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and the time he spent with them. Bud is survived by his children, Allen ‘Butch’ (Joanne) Dykstra of Caledonia, Kathleen Dykstra of Appleton, Daniel (Kathy) Dykstra of Caledonia, Calvin (Nineth) Dykstra of California, Jacky (Steve) Domagalski of Crivitz, Judy Dykstra of Caledonia and Scott (Leanne) Dykstra of Racine; along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He is further survived by sisters; Grace Ostegaard of Racine, Janice (Bob) Harden of Florida, one brother, Cal Dykstra of Racine, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law; Richard Hagen of Washington and Shirley (John) Krekling of Racine, in addition to nieces, nephews, other relatives and many close friends. Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy on January 1, 2012, son, James Jr. and one brother, Raymond Dykstra. Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Thursday September 6, 2012 at 12 noon with Rev. Forrest Williams officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 until service time at 12 noon. Bud will be laid to rest next to Dorothy at West Lawn Memorial Park in a private ceremony. The Dykstra family takes this opportunity to publicly express their gratitude to the staff at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care, especially R.N. Barb Prasser for her devoted care and compassion. Also a special thank you to Bud’s daughter Judy, and his grandson, Arthur for their continuous care and love.
