Nancy Beth Joannon

Nancy Beth Joannon RACINE – Nancy Beth (nee: Hanshew) Joannon, 77, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri on April 24, 1933, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (nee: Broshar) Hanshew. Nancy was united in marriage to Jim Joannon on August 15, 1950 in Centerville, IA, moving their young family to Racine in 1963. Her parents were avid golfers using hickory shaft clubs, at an adult age Nancy acquired the passion for golf. She played golf at Shoop Park and Johnson Park as well as being a member of Meadowbrook Country Club. Nancy was the chairman of the handicap committees for all three golf courses as well. She also was a member and past president of the Racine Curling Club and the Bonnie Bells. She participated in Bonspiels throughout Wisconsin, the United States and Canada. Nancy had been an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Centerville and the Second Presbyterian Church in Racine, singing in the choirs and performing church charity work. She also had been a volunteer for the Boy Scout office in Racine. Nancy is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jim Sr. and their children; Jim Joannon, Jr., Joy (Darrell) Salerno and, Julie (Scott) Klimek all of Racine; five grandchildren, Jim III (Jennifer) Joannon of Wausau, Hilary (Jeff) Lowman of Racine, Joseph Friedel of Whitewater, Marissa (Travis) Gaastra and Erin Salerno of Racine; five great grandchildren, Jacob, Jared, Joshua, Jaden Joannon all of Wausau and Eli Lowman of Racine. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, Gus and Marjorie Joannon; son-in-law, Norm Friedel and daughter-in-law, Anna Joannon. Funeral services will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, 1400 Kingston Ave. on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Don Clarke and Rev. Alan McCalister officiating. Nancy will be laid to rest at West Lawn Memorial Park following services. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday before services from 10 a.m. until time of service. A memorial in Nancy’s name has been established at Second Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, gifts should be directed to the church. A special thank you to Dr. Robert Gullberg, Dr. Joel Niebuhr and the entire staff at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints for the kind and compassionate care given to Nancy.
