Agnes M. Hedera

Agnes M. Hedera STURTEVANT-Agnes May (nee: Petersen) Hedera, 96, passed away after a brief illness on November 24, 2013 at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints with her loving daughter and family by her side. She was born in Racine on May 14, 1917 the daughter of the late Conrad and Marion (nee: Christensen) Petersen. Agnes was united in marriage to William Hedera in Dubuque, Iowa on January 5, 1940 they enjoyed 57 years of marriage prior to his passing in 1997. In 1947 Agnes and William moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She enjoyed singing in The Fort Lauderdale Symphony Chorus, The Fort Lauderdale Chapter-Sweet Adelines and The Broward Women’s Chorus. Agnes loved music, also, learned to play the organ, and even wrote some songs. In retirement they move to Kissimmee, Florida and in 1994 back to Racine to be near family again. Agnes was the youngest of the family of twelve. She was especially proud of her Danish family heritage and found great pride in telling their many stories that started in Denmark and continued as the family grew when coming to America for that better life. Agnes is survived by her daughter, Sandra (James) Moyer of Union Grove, three grandchildren, David (Ludy) Beltz, Russell (Jewel) Beltz and Brian Beltz. She is further survived by six great grandchildren, Barbara Beltz, Jennifer (John) Jones, Sarah (Dustin) Martin, John, Riley and Tanner Beltz. Agnes is further survived by three great-great grandchildren, Zoe and Skyler Martin and Brookanna Jones, one sister-in-law, Ann Koschak of Sun City West, AZ. Her extended family Vicki & Bob Taylor family, Jan & Thomas O’Brien family, Julie & Gary Rossman family and David & Julie Moyer family, along with many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at Yorkville United Methodist Church, 17645 Old Yorkville Road, Union Grove, on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sue Leih officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at church on Sunday from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Agnes in a special way may direct memorials to Yorkville United Methodist Church.Agnes’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to the care givers and staff at WFHC-All Saints and hospice for their genuine care and compassion.
