Cliff Skovsted

Clifford Skovsted MADISON - Clifford (Cliff) Skovsted, 88, passed away at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg on Saturday, March 17, 2012. He was surrounded and comforted by his loving family. Cliff was born in Racine, WI on February 24, 1924 to Kristian and Viola (nee: Nelson) Skovsted. Cliff was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Hartig on June 19, 1948 in Racine, WI. Cliff graduated from Washington Park High School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He particularly enjoyed his training on the UW-Madison campus before being shipped off to India via Brazil and Africa. Cliff had a long career as a department manager in floor coverings and furniture at Sears in Racine and Brookfield. He was a faithful member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Fitchburg, WI and years earlier he was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in West Allis and Bethania Lutheran Church in Racine, WI. Cliff highly valued family and friends in life – enjoying holiday gatherings, couples’ get-togethers and card games of all types. He and Dorothy shared a love for dancing – their polka could not be beat. Cliff was a devoted husband, father and provider to Dorothy and his children. He retired at the age of 60 and dedicated his life to caring for Dorothy and supporting his children and grandchildren in their adventures. Cliff never met a food he didn’t like, especially those wonderful meals cooked by Dorothy. He also looked forward to visits to their favorite restaurants and dining with their family. Cliff was very proud of his family and loving marriage to Dorothy of over 60 years. Surviving are Cliff and Dorothy’s children, Gary (Marlene) Skovsted of Boulder, CO; Carol Skovsted of Wauwatosa, WI and Cheryl (Patrick) Godar of Madison, WI; grandchildren, Eric (Mary) Skovsted of St. Johnsbury, VT; Sonja (Robert) Scott of Portland, OR; Holly Godar and Bryna Godar of Madison, WI; one sister, Virginia (Bob) Repa, two sisters-in-law, Eunice Hecht of Racine and Doris Skovsted of Racine; two brothers-in-law, Pete Christoffersen and Cal Thompson of Racine. He is further survived by many special nieces, nephews, other dear relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Cliff was preceded in death by three sisters, LaVerne Christofferson, Beulah Thompson and Bernice (Dick) Dryer; three brothers, Russell Skovsted, Marvin Skovsted and Gilbert Skovsted (Faye); sisters-in-law, Dolores (Milton) Mogren, Irma (Louis) Anderson and June (Tony) Kraemer; brothers-in-law, Louis (Gertrude) Hartig, Clifford (Ann) Hartig, Roy (Emily) Hartig Harry (Betty) Hartig and Raymond Hecht. A memorial service honoring Cliff will be celebrated at All Saints Lutheran Church, 2951 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg,WI (608-276-7729) on Monday, March 26, 2012 at 4:30 PM. There will be a time to meet with family and friends on Monday at the church from 4 p.m. until time of services at 4:30 p.m. Funeral services will also be celebrated at Sturino Funeral Home in Racine on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 12:00 PM. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday before the service starting at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Rev. Richard Johnson will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials to All Saints Lutheran Church. The family wishes to send a heartfelt note of thanks to the wonderful staffs at Agrace HospiceCare and St. Mary’s Care Center for the compassionate care and support that was so tenderly extended to Cliff during his stays at these facilities.
