Daniel R. Cruz

Daniel R. Cruz, 63, passed away on August 28, 2026, at Froedtert Hospital Milwaukee surrounded by family. Dan was born on December 31, 1962, the first child of Jesus and Joanne (nee: Kwapil) Cruz. He graduated from Walden III High School in 1980, began working at Colortron, and went on to earn his degree in computer science from Gateway Technical College, later bringing his talents to Office Copying Equipment as an IT Specialist. On October 31, 2001, Dan married Bonnie in New Orleans, LA, his favorite place to visit. Dan loved to spend time with family and friends, try out recipes, listen to music, and fire up the grill in the summer to make jalapeño poppers. He gave huge bear hugs that made you forget your worries. A natural fixer with a fascination for gadgets and woodworking, he would often tell people, “we’ve got one of those” or “I can lend you ours.” He was a dedicated fan of Macintosh and Apple computers, and his love for music was a constant in his life. With AC/DC as his signature ringtone, he truly had a song for every situation. During football season, you would find him rooting for the Raiders to the amazement of many friends. Prior to developing end stage kidney failure, Dan was an avid pool and dart player, well known in leagues across the Racine/Kenosha area, leaving behind a legacy of camaraderie, laughter, and warmth. Those left to cherish Dan’s memory include his wife, Bonnie (nee: Francis) Cruz; his mother, Joanne Cruz; his siblings, April Cruz, Rick Cruz, and Denise Cruz; his nephew, Michael Cruz; alongside a wonderful circle of extended family and good friends. His cats, Pepper and Conan, will greatly miss their fur daddy who spoiled them with treats. Dan is preceded in death by his father, Jesus “Reyes” Cruz; his sister, Dawn Cruz; his grandparents; and several aunts, uncles, family, and friends. A memorial service honoring Daniel’s life will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service.
