Dorothy Anna Sparrow

Dorothy A. Sparrow RACINE-Dorothy Anna (nee: Ernst) Sparrow, 87, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2013 with her family by her side at Creekside Terrace in Oak Creek. She was born in Racine on June 1, 1926 the daughter of the late Adolph and Minnie (nee: Smith) Ernst. She was married to Newport Sparrow in August 1954 for 17 years. Dorothy retired from Toledo Scales in 1991 after 17 years of service. In her younger years she was employed at Hamilton Beach for ten years. Dorothy was a long time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She found great enjoyment in finding and collecting treasures, family get-togethers and trips throughout the United States throughout her life, the last one being this November to Minnesota. Dorothy loved dancing, especially polkas. In addition to being an avid lover of animals, especially cats and dogs. In her retirement years she enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. Dorothy will be deeply missed by her loving children; Georgia (Richard) Horner of Franksville, Richard (Dee) Sparrow of Friendship, WI, Janet (William) Langenfeld of Caledonia, Linda (Thomas) Wirtz of Racine and Karen Casey of Natalia, Texas. She is further survived by 22 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends including her faithful canine companion, Allie. Dorothy was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Herbert, two sisters, Ella and Adelia and one grandson, Matthew Wirtz on October 8, 2000. Funeral services for Dorothy will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 3011 Erie St. on Monday, December 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Bischoff officiating. She will be laid to rest at West Lawn Memorial Park following services. Visitation will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. and at church on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Dorothy in a special way may direct memorials to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Dorothy’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Zablotney, nurse Kathy,Creekside Terrace’s entire staff and the entire staff and Season’s Hospice for their attentive care and gentle manner shown to the entire Sparrow family.
