Edward W. Waldeck M.D.

Dr. Edward W. Waldeck died peacefully on Thursday, October 3, 2024. The son of Dr. Edward A. and Ruth (nee: Fritz) Waldeck, was born on March 21, 1939 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Ed received his elementary and secondary education in Fox Point and Shorewood Wisconsin schools. He graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut in 1961 where he was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi social fraternity. Ed received an MD degree from Marquette University School of Medicine, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Chi medical honors societies in 1965. He then interned at St. Joseph's Hospital in Milwaukee from 1965-1966. From 1966 to 1968 Ed served in the United States Air Force as Chief of Aerospace Medicine at Loring Air Force Base in Loring, Maine. Following his military service, Ed entered the Ophthalmology Residency program at Marquette, finishing in 1971. The same year, he was appointed as a Clinical Instructor in the capacity of supervising the Glaucoma Referral Clinic and staffing of the Glaucoma Clinic at Milwaukee County General Hospital as well as Director of Student and Resident Instruction. Ed then advanced to Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology in 1972. In 1978 he accepted a Clinical Faculty position, entering private practice on a part time basis in Cudahy, Wisconsin and in 1982 he entered full time private practice with Dr. Gerald Wadina. In 1991 Ed joined Ophthalmology Associates in Cudahy and practiced there until his retirement in 2017. Ed was an avid and loyal Wisconsin sports fan. It was always fun to watch and listen to him as he enthusiastically enjoyed a game. He was a longtime member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and Racine Country Club. Ed was active in many sports and was also an avid cruciverbalist – someone who solves and loves crossword puzzles…and he did! Ed and his wife, Janna, shared five children during their 43 year marriage. Andrew (Shelley) Waldeck, Stephanie James (Greg Mikles), Matthew (Molly) Waldeck, Dana DeArmond and Wade (Annie) DeArmond. Their grandchildren are Alex Mikles, Zoe Mikles, Marin DeArmond, Everett DeArmond and Aiden Waldeck. Other close relatives include Ed's brother, Charles (Nadine) Waldeck; niece, Catie Waldeck; sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Dorathea and James Brooks; and brother-in-law, Richard Vestino. Ed was a kind and humble man who cherished his family. He was blessed with many great friends, and felt a deep satisfaction in his chosen profession. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
