Evelyn Eleanor Walquist RACINE-Evelyn E. Walquist, 92, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday January 25, 2012. Evelyn was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 31, 1919, the daughter of the late Rev. Eric and Signey (nee: Hedblom) Eliason. She was raised in Rockford, Illinois, graduating from Rockford High School “Class of 1937”. After graduating from high school she relocated to Racine in 1938. Evelyn was united in marriage to Harold Walquist in Racine on April 22, 1942. She was a longtime member of Faith United Methodist Church, and the Women Society of Christian Service. Evelyn’s life was about church, family and friends. She lived life as we all should; with kindness, patience and never a harsh word to anyone. Evelyn passed on her values and love to three generations that will keep her memory close to their hearts. Evelyn worked as a government transportation survey interviewer. She continued her employment as a Secretary for Racine Unified School District retiring after 18 years of service. Evelyn was proud to raise three children, Peter (Susan) Walquist, Nancy (Stan) Druckrey and Paul (Canda Singstock) Walquist. It was her joy to be grandmother, to Carrie (Jeff) Grissom, Amy (Doug) Collins, Melissa (Joe) Schlichting, Thomas (Nicole) Druckrey, Erick (Rebeca) Walquist. Also left to cherish her memory are her great grandchildren, Ethan, Emily and Brenna Grissom, Maddy, Morgan, and Emma Collins, Jameson and Annie Druckrey, Summer Schlichting, Gavin and Aiden Walquist. Evelyn is further survived by her sister Phyllis Erickson, dear friend Shirley Meyer, along with nieces, nephews, and many loving relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold on June 9, 2003, sisters Gladys Johnson and Violet Peterson and one brother, Emil Eliason. Funeral Services will be held at Faith United Methodist Church, 1013 Harmony Drive, Racine, on Saturday January 28, 2012 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Listowel Ayensu-Mensah officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Harold in a private ceremony at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday January 27, 2012 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. and at church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Evelyn in a special way direct memorials to Faith United Methodist Church.
