Frances "Fran" Hicks

Burlington - Frances “Fran” Hicks, 80, passed away peacefully at Grande Prairie in Pleasant Prairie on April 11, 2017, with her loved ones by her side. She was born in Itawamba County, Mississippi on December 29, 1936 the daughter of Ruble and Flora (nee: Griggs) Pedigo. On September 19, 1953 she was united in marriage to James Hicks in Mantachie, MS. Fran along with her husband James moved to Kenosha, WI in 1954. Upon their retirement they relocated back to Mississippi in 1997 and she decided to move back to Burlington, WI in 2012 after the passing of her husband, to be closer to family. Fran attended and graduated from Gateway Technical College obtaining her real estate license and pursued a career with Schael Realty and ERA Realty. She was also employed for many years with Jockey International Research and Development. Fran was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Racine and Calvary Baptist Church in Marietta, MS. She was very active in her church with Youth for Christ, VBS-vacation bible school, children’s Sunday School Teacher and a member of WMU (Women Missionary Union of SE, WI. Fran is survived by her son, Ricky (Jackie) Hicks of Brighton, WI; two grandsons, Christopher (Courtney) Hicks of Kenosha, and Matthew (Allie) Hicks of Brighton. She is furthered survived by four great grandchildren, Mason, Easton, Kadence and James in addition to brothers, CL (Audrey) Pedigo, Charlie (Peggy) Pedigo, Marc (Linda) Pedigo, Mackie (Leva) Pedigo and one sister, Raye Raines. Fran is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends in Burlington, Kenosha and Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James, sister, Faye and brother, Billy. Fran’s Racine funeral service will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1400 Warwick Way, Racine, WI on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Tony Gulbrandsen officiating. Visitation will be held at church from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 am. Her Mississippi funeral will be held in Baldwyn, MS. Fran will be laid to rest next to her husband James at Ozark Cemetery in Ozark, MS. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Fran in a special way, may direct memorials to the family. Upon Fran’s diagnosis with cancer she took the high road and self-proclaimed her cancer with the attitude of “I am a winner either way”.
