Howard L. Woodward BLACK RIVER FALLS – Howard L. Woodward, 85, passed away at his home at Country Terrace on Sunday, June 9, 2013. He was born in Racine on March 5, 1929 to the late Richard and Matilda (nee: Johnson) Woodward. Howard proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Howie was united in marriage in August of 1949 to Dorothy Londre, who preceded him in death on July 27, 1995. Howie worked for Gordon’s Furniture, retiring from Lathrop Furniture. In his retirement he was the groundskeeper at River Bend Resort Campground near Watertown, WI where he and Dorothy made their home after they retired. Howie was a great story teller around the campfires at River Bend. Together he and Dorothy enjoyed many motorhome trips to Florida and Arizona. In his early years, Howie played a lot of softball. He liked hunting and fishing. Hunting was his favorite by far. He would have liked it to be open deer season all year around. He moved to Black River Falls in 2006. Howie and Dorothy’s ministry in life was caring for the less fortunate. They were very generous and much loved. He will be dearly missed. Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Wayne (Marva) Woodward; sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene Woodward, Arlene Londre, Beverly Funk, Sharon Huck, Mary Londre, Marilyn Highman, Pat (Jerry) Londre and Sandi (Dan) Muleski. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Howie was preceded in death by his son, Ron, brothers, Floyd ‘Bud’, Bill, David, and Vernon, sisters, Joyce and Nancy, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ed Londre, Bob (Lynne) Londre, Rick Londre, Tom Londre, Ron Londre, Joyce Thompson-Johnson, Nancy Toutant-Paeth, and Joanne Johnson. Funeral services will be held at Gospel Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of God, 1230 6th St. on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 6 p.m. with Pastor Raymond Christenson officiating. There will be a visitation at the church on Thursday before services from 4 p.m. until time of service at 6p.m. Howie will be laid to rest next to Dorothy at West Lawn Memorial Park in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Howard’s legal guardian, Jerry Londre, would be greatly appreciated.
