James R. Martin

James R. Martin New Port Richey, FL- James (Jim) Richard Martin, 83, formerly of Racine, passed away on December 2, 2011. Jim was born in Racine on March 10, 1928, the son of the late Alphonse and Roma (nee: Andersen) Martin. He was united in marriage to Janice Krinkey. After attending Washington Park High School, Jim served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy and is a proud World War II veteran. He previously owned and operated “The Pantry Bakery” (located on Douglas Avenue) one of Racine’s first Danish Bakeries. For 25 years Jim was employed at Twin Disc retiring prior to moving to Florida. His passion was his love for sailing, leisurely and competitively and participated in many races including numerous “MAC” Races. Jim had been actively involved in the Racine Yacht Club serving as Commodore for two terms. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles. In his early years, he rode with the “Poke-a-long Riders” and continued his love of riding until recently. Jim is survived by his children, Sherrell Martin, Sandilane “Sandi” (Mike) Eichler, Dayne Martin and Diane Frye all of Racine, Lori Ammons of Milton, Florida, Jamie (Candace Herriot) Martin of Racine, Jay (Jenny) Martin of Enterprise, Alabama, and Jana (Alex) Joseph of New Port Richey, Florida. He is further survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, one brother, John (Mia) Martin of Winona, Minnesota, sister-in-law, Betty Martin of Crivitz, in addition to many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends to numerous to mention. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Janice on August 11, 2001, daughter Lisa Jackson, two sons-in-law, Bob “Detroit” Jackson, Tom Frye and one brother, Gerald Martin. A memorial service will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at West Lawn Memorial Park in a private ceremony. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Jim in a special way, may direct memorials to The American Cancer Society.
