Jennifer Powers NEW JERSEY- Jennifer “Jenny” Powers, 32, formerly of Racine passed away unexpectedly in New Jersey, on June 21, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer which began in January 2014. She was born in Madison, WI on February 2, 1983 the daughter of Bernard and Lynette (nee: Sampica) Powers. Jenny was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 2001”. She continued her education at the University of Milwaukee School of Business, graduating in 2006. While attending UW Milwaukee, Jenny was involved with International Business Study Abroad Program in Paris. She enjoyed traveling and visited many countries including France, Spain, United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Sweden, Bermuda, and the Caribbean. In her professional life as a CPA, Jenny was last employed as a Senior Associate Tax Technology Associate for KPMG in Montvale, New Jersey. Her loves were traveling, volunteering, biking and music. Jenny was very involved with many civic organizations that used fundraising projects to help others. She was active with Habitat for Humanity, National MS Society, United Performing Arts Fund, United Way of America, St. Bernard Project, and was an advocate for dog rescue. She was a “Rescue Mom” to Lady (a greyhound) and Max (a whippet) and cared for them affectionately. She was also involved with the Rubber Ballers kickball group in Milwaukee, gaining many friends there. Most of all, Jenny was a road biker who loved to feel the breeze on her back as she rode long distances and participated in many charity bike rides. She loved to sing and participated in multiple community choirs during her time with us. Jenny is survived by her parents, Bernard and Lynette Powers of Racine; brother Brian J. (Jen) Powers and nephew Ben of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, brother Brett J. (fiancé, Kendal Kirby) Powers, of Chicago, IL, and loving boyfriend Larry Shoop of Cliffside Park, New Jersey. She is further survived by her canine family, Lady and Max, in addition to numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Thomas F. and Geraldine Powers and Herbert and Darlene Sampica. Her passing will leave a huge hole in the hearts of the family and friends that loved her deeply. Jenny’s memorial mass will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic church, 6400 Spring Street on Tuesday, June 30th, 2015 at 12 noon with Rev. Terry Huebner officiating. She will be laid to rest at St. George Cemetery following mass. Visitation will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Monday June 29, from 5pm until 7 pm and will continue on Tuesday at the church from 11 am until mass time.
