Miguel "Sarge" Amaya

Miguel “SARGE” Amaya, 74, resident of Racine was called home on October 14th ,2022, surrounded by loved ones at Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee. He was born on December 12, 1947, in Racine, WI, son of Pablo and Eva (Cruz) Amaya. Miguel was married to the love of his life, Patricia Gordon, on September 11, 1999. Miguel proudly served his country as a Sargeant in the United States Marines during Vietnam and GITMO. During his 7 years of service, Miguel was awarded National Defense Service Medal, Marine Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Oak Cluster, Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, Navy & Marine Overseas Service Award, and USN Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. After serving in the Marine Corps., Miguel continued to serve his community with a career in law enforcement in Dallas, Texas, and healthcare in Racine, Wisconsin. In his free time, he enjoyed cooking out with family, riding his motorcycle, attending church festivals, and listening to The Rat Pack and mariachi music. Miguel participated in multiple 4th of July events including a World War II veteran’s parade float with his dad as well as a motorcycle precession. Miguel will be deeply missed by his wife, Patricia Amaya; children, Jenny (Freddy), Sara (Tim), Amy, Christi (David), Eric (Ashley); brothers, Albert, and Bobby (Angie); sisters, Blanca (Tom) and Alicia; grandchildren, Madeline, Olivia, Brent, Ryleigh, Braylon, Leila in addition to many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. He goes on to be reunited with his father Pablo Amaya; brother, O.C., Ricky, Danny, Pablo II; sisters, Rita and Anna; grandparents Miguel and Sabina Amaya, Francisco and Aurora Cruz.. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, October 24th, 2022, at St Richard’s Catholic Church 1503 Grand Ave. Racine at 11am with Fr Jose Mario Nieto officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until mass. Miguel will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors on Monday, October 24th, 2022, at 12 p.m. following mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Zablocki VA Medical Center ICU staff in addition to the doctors and staff on 6C for their outstanding and loving care.
