Ruth Freehling

Ruth Freehling RACINE – Ruth (nee: Schneider) Freehling, 89, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Willowcrest in South Milwaukee. She was born in Goodrich, North Dakota on May 27, 1923, the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Adolfine (nee: Raboldt) Schneider. Ruth was a graduate of Union Grove High School. On May 31, 1969 Ruth was united in marriage to Phillip Freehling at First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was an active member with the Ladies Aid, Sewing Circle and a Sunday school teacher. Ruth was also active in the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, and it’s Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter, assisting in family history and as a translator. She enjoyed many years of travel with her husband, Phil throughout the United States. Ruth also enjoyed her annual travels visiting family every winter to Garden Grove, California. Ruth loved reading and also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and embroidery. She had been employed with S. C. Johnson as a secretary for 15 years, retiring in 1976. Ruth also was a legal secretary for Fornary & Fornary Law Offices for many years. Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law, Robert D. (Paulette) Iverson of Racine; grandchildren, Rachel Iverson of Juneau, AL, Trisha (Peter) Pumper of Milladore and Karen (Michael) Zielinski of Wauwatosa; great grandchildren, Emily, Shelby, Lillian, Madeline, Abigail and Simon Pumper and Jacob Zielinski. She is further survived by her sisters, Hertha Preston of Racine and Suzanne Herriges of Franklin, sisters-in-law, Florence Richter and Marjorie Schneider both of Racine, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Phil on August 10, 1998, sister, Ethel (Otto) Blask and brothers, Frank Richter and Oscar Schneider, brothers-in-law, Leonard Preston and Harlyn Herriges . Funeral services will be held at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 728 Villa St. on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Aaron Dolan officiating. Entombment will follow at Mound Cemetery Garden Court Crypts. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Monday, from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to First Evangelical Lutheran Church are requested by the family. A special thank you to the staff at Willowcrest and Heartland Hospice for their care and kindness to Ruth.
