Shirley Mae (nee: Gastrow) Mau

STURTEVANT - Shirley Mae (nee: Gastrow) Mau, 81, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie. Shirley was born in Blaine, Wisconsin on August 2, 1929, the daughter of William and Edna (nee: Schrader) Gastrow. She was united in marriage to Warren K. Mau Sr. in 1954. Shirley attended Christian Reformed Church when she was able. Shirley was the Voting Poll Supervisor for the Village of Sturtevant for more than 30 years. She enjoyed bowling at Castle Lanes, playing dartball at Douglas Park and playing cards. Shirley could be found playing Bingo at Roma Lodge on a regular basis and enjoyed going to the movies with her friends of over 50 years. Most of all she loved spending time up north with her family. Shirley is survived by her children, Peggy (Bill) Strege of Twin Lakes, Warren 'Chip' (Anita) Mau of Moreno Valley, CA, Carol (Ken) Piaro of Nekoosa and Cheryl (David) Spaude of Greendale; nine grandchildren, Jerry, Barbara, Tracy, Michael, Will, Sabrina, Adam, Amanda and Alise; nine great grandchildren, Sean, Michael, Brittany, Brianna, Christopher, Karlin, Chloe, Troy and Jack; one brother, William (Ruth) Gastrow of Racine and one sister, Betty Johnson of Sturtevant; brother-in-law, Duane Mau of Paradise, CA. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Warren on July 18, 2004, sister, Janet Matranga; sister-in-law, Madelyne Mau and brothers-in-law, Peter Matranga and Hank Johnson. Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Douglas Aldrink officiating. Shirley will be will be laid to rest next to her husband, Warren at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday October 26, 2010, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
