Dennis "Denny" Johnson

Dennis Johnson, 86, a man of deep faith, passed away on October 12, 2024, surrounded by family at Ascension Hospital in Racine where he was admitted the day before. Dennis was born Dec 1, 1937, to Ray and Elsie Johnson. He grew up in Racine with his parents and older brother Thomas. He attended St John’s Lutheran School, Racine Lutheran High and the University of Wisconsin. On Nov 26, 1959, he married Sharon Rae (Lueneburg) Johnson at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Racine (they were looking forward to celebrating their 65th anniversary next month). They raised three wonderful children. Dennis was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in Racine. He served as past president of Grace and Racine Lutheran High School boards. He was in the insurance business for 60 years and owns Associated Insurers in Franksville. He was very proud that both of his sons chose to be in business with him. He was in his office, as usual, the day before he passed. Dennis was an avid hunter and fisherman, starting at a young age with his dad and brother to just three weeks ago when he caught a 26-inch walleye on Lake Caribou in Ontario. It’s there where Dennis created his legacy – a beautiful log home with most everything in it crafted by his own hands. He loved sharing the home and the pristine lake of 23,000 acres with family and friends. He also enjoyed a CC around the fireplace reminiscing about his many life adventures. Dennis was an incredibly hard worker his entire life, as evidenced by his perseverance to build the log home aptly named Camp Courage. The land is accessible only by water, and the challenges were great over the 4 years it took to complete. Dennis also loved to travel, go out to eat, and be with cherished family. He was always observing and smiling at the kids and, once in a while, would pipe up with a great story or joke. He had a wonderful sense of humor, even joking with the nurse taking care of him only hours before passing. He will be remembered as a friendly and kind man – a ‘gentle giant’ at 6’8” tall. He will be so very missed by Sharon, his beloved wife of 65 years; daughter Rae Ann (Rod) Good, sons Scott (Terri) and Steve Johnson and Linda Johnson; six grandchildren Brennan (Kora) Johnson, Trevor (Gabrielle) Johnson, Bailey (Jake) Dockum; Tanner (Aleigha) Johnson, Logan Johnson and Kayla Kerkman, and Camarae Good; great grandchildren Braylin, Laken, Halston, Brody, Emersyn and Braxtyn Johnson with two more greats arriving soon! As well as his faithful canine named Lady. Other family members who Dennis loved dearly include his late brother Tom, special cousin Dr. Al Johnson, nephew Brad Johnson, sister-in-law Linda Lueneburg (late Jim Lueneburg), brother and sister-in-law Gary and Pat Lueneburg, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, particularly lifelong friend Vern Baumgart. Visitation Sat, Oct 19, at 9:30 AM with service at 10:30 AM at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3700 Washington Ave., Racine. Christian burial at Arlington Cemetery in Milwaukee at 1:45 PM. The family extends a special thank you to Drs. Durbin, Choi and Bajwa and their staffs as well as Compassus nurses Fatima, Angie and Crystal for their compassionate care.
