Harold "Sonny" Eugene Bjugstad
July 26, 1923 - October 11, 2021
Harold Eugene Bjugstad (“Sonny”), 98, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Wisconsin Veterans Home-Boland Hall. Sonny was born on July 26,1923 to Carl Hilmar Bjugstad and Laura Josephine Knudson Bjugstad in Barron, Wisconsin. He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Bjugstad Gaines of California; sons, David and Donald Bjugstad of Racine; five grandchildren: Lisa Ellis of Racine, Arlene and Ben Bjugstad of Texas, Travis Gaines of Virginia, and Andrew Gaines of Texas; a brother, Walde of Cameron; as well as by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lorraine Bjugstad of Minnesota and Norma Bjugstad Hasson of California; brother, Luverne Bjugstad of Barron; sisters-in-law, Elaine and Olive Bjugstad of Barron; a son-in-law, Ken Gaines of California; and a granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Gaines. Dad loved to find the humor in things and usually had a one-liner or joke or pun ready whatever the topic of discussion was. He loved a great story and a good laugh. He was friendly and willing to help when he saw a need. An avid sports fan, Dad enjoyed watching football, baseball, golf and car races as well as old comedy shows. He liked listening to gospel music and country music. When he was still able, he enjoyed cooking and would laughingly describe his endeavors as “utterly delicious.” When asked how he was feeling, his response was often, “I’m so blessed it should be illegal…God is so good to me!” He was light-heartedly good-natured and had a sweet, gentle spirit. Sonny worked at Ladish in Cudahy for 32 years. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater: Japan and the Philippines. Sturino Funeral Home will host visitation Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. and a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Military honors will be held at noon at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove where an Honor Guard will express the thanks and appreciation of a grateful nation for Sonny’s faithful and honorable service in the United States Army. Eternal life is now a present reality for Dad. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord; he is with our heavenly Father and more alive and joyful than he has ever been. Jesus said: I am the Resurrection and the Life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies. And everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. John 11:25-26
