Leone M. Nelson

Leone M. Nelson RACINE-Leone Margaret (nee: Horner) Nelson, 92, ran into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Friday morning, November 29th, 2013. She was born in Racine July 11th, 1921 to Howard and Mary Horner. For seven decades she served her family, country during World War II, church and hundreds of people as a registered nurse at the Racine Medical Clinic. Leone loved serving her Lord in many different ways. She was an extraordinarily compassionate person who could quickly make a friend and provide a listening ear. Leone especially loved serving as a greeter and small group leader at Community Church of the Nazarene. After her retirement from nursing in 1985 she started and ran a wonderful little shop called “Kountry Kousins” where once again she made hundreds of friends. This proved to be an exciting time for her and her husband Vernon “Red” as he provided the shop with many pieces of handmade furniture. Leone’s love for her Savior was always on display. She was a wife, mother, and grandmother “par excellence.” She will be deeply missed. Leone is survived by her children, Howard (Marsha) Nelson, Kathleen Seal, Cindy (Todd) Schulz, Jon (Brenda) Nelson and Bonnie (Gordy) Gibson. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, twin sister Grace (Beryl) Dillman, sister-in-law Dorothy Nelson, and many nieces and nephews who loved her deeply. Leone was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Vernon Nelson, infant daughter Laura, brothers, Ken, Elmer and Everett Horner, sister, Miriam Wilfong, and son-in-law William Seal. Visitation will be from 6:00-7:00 p.m. December 6th, 2013 at Community Church of the Nazarene, 8640 Spring St., with a memorial service to follow. Officiating will be her Pastor Rich Doering, her son Rev. Jon Nelson and grandsons, Rev. Jason Nelson and Rev. Jonathan Gibson. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be directed to Youth for Christ of Southeastern WI in her name. The Nelson family would like to thank Hospice Alliance, especially the staff and caregivers at Casa del Mare for all their compassionate care. They were a great blessing to Leone and her family.
