Mary T. Sauls

Mary T. Sauls (born Mary Lois Thompson) passed away gently and quietly at the age of 93. She was being tucked into her bed at her Assisted Living residence, Kenosha Place. She had been living there for one year before passing away. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, and a friend to many. Mary was born on March 20, 1931 in Racine, Wisconsin and lived most of her life on the brick streets of College Avenue. She graduated from Washington Park High School and UW-Madison with a degree in Art. She worked at a variety of jobs doing secretarial work over the years, retiring to the family home on College Avenue to care for her father, Thor, after her mother passed away in 1975. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church for many years before its closure. Mary was able to live in her home almost to the end, thanks to the love and care by her grandson, Erik T. Brandt. Mary loved her home and family, gardening, reading, collecting her treasures, art and architecture, and traveling in younger years. She could be found raking and picking up walnuts in her yard up until the age of 92. She took much pride in her three grandchildren, and enjoyed their visits from New York state through all her years. Her daughter, Sarah, is proud of her mother’s strong and independent nature, her quirky sense of humor and all her love and support. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thorwald (8/3/1980) and Mae (Evans) Thompson (10/28/1975) her brother, Richard E. Thompson, her beloved Aunt, Gladys Jane Evans as well as other aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah (Brandt) Douglas (Jeff Douglas), and three grandchildren, Erik T. Brandt (Kelsey Lunde), Dr. Emily A. Brandt, and Katie J. Brandt. We are also very grateful for the kind and compassionate care she received at Kenosha Place during the last year of her life. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday April 25, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Sturino Funeral Home, visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time with burial following at Mound Cemetery for immediate family. Our hearts are lighter, knowing she is now at peace and catching up with family and friends who left before her. We will all miss her greatly.
