Sara Elizabeth Neubauer

Sara Elizabeth Neubauer (born Sara Elizabeth Voelker) of Racine, born February 27, 1932, passed away on April 14 at the age of 94, or as our relative from the Mohican Nation living in Wisconsin says - “She walked on down the trail.” Beloved wife of Ralph Neubauer who passed away too soon on February 7, 1998, devoted mother of Kristin, Jill, Karen, and Jeff, cherished grandmother and great‑grandmother. Sara was known for her warmth, quiet strength, intelligence and lifelong dedication to family and community. A lifelong resident of Racine, Sara graduated from Horlick High School with high honors and attended University of Wisconsin-Madison until she stepped out at age 20 to marry Ralph. She returned to complete her education in the 1980’s attending UW-Parkside where she graduated with honors in 1985. She was an active member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church for 70 years, and a supporter of and volunteer for the Caledonia Conservancy, United Way, UW-Parkside Foundation Board, and Children's Theater. She delivered Meals on Wheels for over 30 years. Sara had a passion for being with her family, which she valued above all else, and sewing, knitting, reading, birds, math, geography, and crossword puzzles. Sara is survived by three of her four children, Kristin, Jill, Jeff and her daughter-in-law Lisa, grandchildren, Kat and her wife Rhodes, Greta and her husband Hudson, Elle and her wife Lily, and Annie, and her great grandchild Asher. She was preceded in death by her daughter Karen, her husband Ralph, her granddaughter Lizzie, and her sister Linda Helke. Family, friends, and caregivers remember her for her unwavering kindness, an easy laugh, her unending curiosity especially for science and math, her quiet, unique courage to adapt to life’s challenges, and most of all the joy she found in life. Her physical legacy is the family farm she shared with Ralph, which will be passed on for generations to come. The family wishes to thank her special caregivers, Libby and Sally, St Monica’s Memory Care, St Croix Hospice, and Senior Helpers. A Celebration of Life will be held on the afternoon of Friday, July 31st at Holy Communion Lutheran Church. The family is being assisted by the Sturino Funeral Home.
