Sue L. Baas

Sue L. Baas ENGLEWOOD, FL-Sue L. (nee: Galema) Baas, 83, was called suddenly to her heavenly home on Monday November 21, 2011. Sue was born in Lafayette, Indiana on August 1, 1928 to the late Martin and Effie (nee: Heerdt) Galema. Sue was united in marriage to Gerald Baas in 1951, recently celebrating their 60th anniversary in August. Sue graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI with a BA Degree. She went on to serve briefly as a Christian schoolteacher, but found her greatest joy as a Godly wife, mother and grandmother. She was a faithful and long time member of Racine Christian Reformed Church, spent many years as a Coffee Break Bible Study leader, and was involved with Crossroads Prison Ministry. Sue enjoyed knitting, reading and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sue is survived by her husband Gerald of Racine; her children: Mary (Marv) Hofman of Holland MI; Jane (Craig) Friesema of Racine; John (Beth) Baas of Sioux Center, IA; Jim (Stephanie) Baas of Hudsonville, MI; Steve (Mary Jo) Baas of Brookfield; and Dan Baas of Grand Rapids, MI; 16 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister, Wilma Galema of Holland, MI; and sister-in-law, Lois Galema of Pella, IA. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Sue is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Joseph Galema. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the Racine Christian Reformed Church, 900 Illinois St. on Monday, November 28, 2011 at 12 Noon with Rev. Douglas Aldrink officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 11:15 a.m. until time of service at 12 Noon. Sue will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
