Violet 'Vi' Lillian Rhode

Violet L. Rhode RACINE – Violet 'Vi' Lillian (nee: Anderson) Rhode, 92, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Oak Ridge Care Center in Union Grove. She was born in Racine on July 31, 1924, the daughter of the late Arthur and Harriet (nee: Johnson) Anderson. She was a lifelong resident, graduating from Washington Park High School in 1942. On December 11, 1948 she was united in marriage to Marshall H. Rhode. Vi was employed and retired from Bank One. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and also volunteered many hours to the American Heart Association, having held the position of Secretary for Racine County. She loved her family dearly. She loved to bake, especially homemade bread. She captured all family events with her camera. Vi also became interested in genealogy and spent many hours researching her family tree. Marshall preceded her death on February 13, 2013. He was born on April 8, 1922 to the late Herbert and Myrtle (nee: Bullette) Rhode. Marshall and Vi spent 64 years with each other, and are now together again. We are celebrating his life along with Vi's. Marshall was a WWII veteran, having served in the South Pacific. He retired from Twin Disc. He enjoyed fishing and vacationing with the family. Marshall was a master craftsman, and spent many hours building and refinishing furniture. We will always remember him for his wonderful sense of humor. Surviving are their children, Marsha (Robert) Helland, and Ryan Rhode, all of Racine, and Rhonda Small of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Marshall Small of Atlanta, Mitchell Small of Orlando, FL, Arielle (Zach) Takerian of Racine, and Miranda Rhode of Woodstock, GA, and one great grandchild, Thomas Takerian. They were preceded in death by their son, David, and son-in-law, Earl Small Jr. Funeral Services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 3011 Erie St, Racine, WI 53402 on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. There will be visitation from 10:30 until the time of service. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Interment will be held at Graceland cemetery. The family would like to thank Oak Ridge Care Center and Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care for the kindness and compassion shown to Vi and her family.
